Wow how time flies. I wonder if the 7 year itch means time for a new Viper, lol.

For those of you that have been a member before 2000, why does it just show you have been a member since 2000? I know of one that it shows since 1997, so why does it not go back that far for you?

The join date listed is the forum join date, not their club join date. The club existed before the website.

And as an interesting FYI, the VERY first post on the forums was made Friday, 5 December 1997, at 8:20 p.m. by a user account that no longer exists. That gives JonB the oldest join date of December 8 1997, 12:57 PM.

Wow that is a long time ago. He was the one I was referring to with the join date of 1997. Way to go JonB :2tu:

Ah, but since there was no connectivity between the old and current boards for user names how would they know who had what forum name. I do not recall having to state my real name or anything back then. As an FYI I was a member of the original board. I have no idea when I started on it but I know I was active well before the VOI at Vegas, as we had a mini forum gathering before VOI in the casino. I would guess that I was a forum member in 1997 as well based on that.

Actually, that was a manually set date that I did for Jon B to acknowledge his history when we switched to the new forum software. I did that for him and I think Michael (PacketJunkie) changed his own (correctly), otherwise there are very few that show prior to July of 2000 as that is when we migrated to the new software. Heck, I didn't even change my own Join Date, although I started posting here in early 1999 - I just wanted to make sure JonB was taken care of.

There were others before JonB on the forums and some still post here under different User ID's as GR8 suggested. Jay Herbert founded the site and started the original BBS forums. JonB was post #28 - and it was suggesting ways to improve the site, of course. :D He was also our very first paid advertiser. I went ahead and adjusted Jay's unofficial join date to 12/7/97, the date of his first retained post - several others were lost in the archiving process. Anybody else prior to 2000 remember their original user ID and approximately when they joined? Happy to change yours as well... :2tu:

Hmmmm, just looked at some old membership cards "member since 1997". Not sure when I first accessed the OLD website...

Maybe they should just laminate "VCA old fart" to mine!

I can only recall a few names from back then. Jay of course. Wingking, as he organized of a pre-VOI gathering (in Boulder City). That puts the database use somewhere in the Dec 1997 to April 1998 timeframe. Seems there was some kind of AOL forum prior to that as well. But years have clouded the memories too much.
