You probably are not buying a gt500 for look over the gts, so... if it's all about usable and reliable power, then probably you'll be much happier with a nicely modded Evo. I'm a terrible driver but I do feel safe (relatively) flooring that 10 second beast.., and it costs about 1/3 of the $67K...
I had a 2000 ACR ~7 years & 9K miles and love it. It does help eliminating a few of the "I could have..." thoughts. Then I could have bought a surpercharged one to start with ... it had consumed me enough that 3 years ago I actually added a paxton + exhaust + header ...etc... then I could...
I haven't seen this car up close, but I have seen it on high way awhile back. It's very amazing, shiny, especially with those wheels. If I have to complain, it would be the stock exhaust tips.
My 2000 ACR comes with Koni Shocks. All were rebuilt too. If I remember correctly it has very early build date. When I put the supercharger on, the tuner told me that early 2000 ACR comes with forged internal -- there's no fixed rule it's just the availablity of parts.

Please post update and instructions. I've been searching recently but found little to no info about this. My GTS's front feels scarily unstable at only 135mph. Pics and list of parts would be great. Thanks. BTW, skip pics of the fat gf please :)
I was facing the same decision, and went the paxton path because of the smog regulation in California. It's very quick but doesn't "feel" that fast -- doesn't have that rush of when the turbo kicks in -- it's addictive :).
My setup: paxton on creampuff ACR (though Ted told me it's surely not...
