I'm seriously thinking about showing off my '96 GTS at the Birmingham, AL World Of Wheels car show. Since the show is indoors the fire marshal requirements include removing the battery cable. I'd prefer not to jack it up, remove the cover and THEN disconnect the cable. Is there a safe (and easier) way to remove power without doing it at the battery itself?

Not that I know...of course, some have put a cutoff switch at the battery. I do not do this myself.

remove the power cable on the jump port then wrap it in electrical tape and tuck it to the side

The power port under the hood is much easier to access, but
you need to be VERY careful about removing it. That nut it is
sealed onto the stud, and if you break it trying to unscrew it,
it can become a VERY costly mistake.

Id talk to whomever is hosting the event to see if there is an
exception because of the batterys location - if not, Id skip the
show. Like you said, jacking the car up is going to be a huge
hassle (and risk) at a show...
