Be sure you roll down your windows if it is a hardtop. The sound insulation qualities in the hard top model are so good that you might not hear the sound with your windows up. BTW the hood speakers were designed for the RT folks to have a better audio experience back in the early days.
"Vanishing Point" is the best damn Mopar movie ever.
Kowalski was the best damn Mopar driver in any movie ever.
It is my favorite movie ever.
Every time I see a cop, for just the tiniest fraction of a second, I think about Kowalski driving that Challenger and think maybe, just maybe, I should...
Re: Cancelled My Membership to
Don't cheer too early.
If you disconnect the old PCM (unhook the battery) and reconnect it, often the Idle Hang goes away for a few hundred miles until the computer "relearns" its old bad ways.
I'd say if after 300 miles or so it stays gone then you are in the...
As DChan415 said, the solid rear axle is a superior setup for racing 1/4 mile at a time.
Also Vipers do not have automatic transmissions, which once again are a superior device (to manual transmissions) for 1/4 drag racing.
So a Mustang starts out cheaper and more aptly set up for drag racing...
It's a little involved but I had a similar problem trying to disconnect the fuel filter. Just couldn't get the plastic disconnect to snap dowm.
What I did was go to the harware store.
There I bought an adjustable pair of "Vise Grip" pliers
and two large flat washers.
One washer had an inside...
My care still hangs at idle about 50% of the time.
I haven't had time to work on it much
but
I've gotten some ideas.
1. I've had the "Check Engine" light go on a few times
and the DTC code indicates bad O2 sensor.
I've bought new sensors but had not had time to install them.
The warning light...
I kind of went a different route. I wanted the most applicable jack for working on a Viper so I bought the DK13HLQ
http://www.asedeals.com/hydraulicjacks2.html
Pros: 3.1" at low point and lifts to 29.2"
(works well under low cars like the viper and if you are burly like I am it is hard...
I did notice something recently.
A few years ago when I changed the intake manifold gaskets I noticed motor oil in the intake runners. Not much but it was there. No real explanation for it. Recently I noted that the car was not "Idle Hanging" as much. I checked the oil and it was towards low...
'97's had problems with intake manifold gasket leaks
I'm not sure about 96's.
When mine was bad it would idle at 3000 rpm.
Not a hard job to replace both sides.
Twice I've had problems with what I assume were dumb young males in cars trying to cause trouble while I was out driving. Each time I managed to get ahead of them and then let them catch up to me. I'd pull off the main road onto a smaller side road to ascertain that they were in fact following...
1. Every household and business in each city pays $5 per year.
2. Money used to build drag strips. Bigger city more strips.
3. Dragstrips built have no rules. No equipment rules; no racing rules; participants decide.
4. All strips open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
5. Legislature passes law...
I haven't had time to rehook my diagnostics program to the car, reading the one other thread though yielded a value of 20 mmhg for the idle vacuum which I recall mine idling at 12 mmhg. Vacuum leak? Still one would figure that if this was the case a DTC code should be set. Also someone mentioned...
Seems like finding the answer to this
would be the "Holy Grail" of '97 Viperdom.
Everyones "Idle Hang" is similar and yet different.
Let's see what happens with EdmuntonGTS' new PCM.
Beware though that for the first 300 miles or so
after the battery has been disconnected
the computer will be...
I've replaced the TPS and the IAC motor
to no avail.
Seems like if it was the IAC motor then that should have
set off a DTC code i.e. the computer should note that
the O2 sensors aren't cycling appropriately.
The TPS: what are the odds I replaced a bad one with another bad one?
The computer...
Hey, I'm back with the same problem.
'97 GTS that has "Idle Hang" the condition wherein the car spontaneously
makes up its mind to idle at 1500 RPM for a while
defying all attempts to bring the idle down
then after 5-20 minutes it spontaneously drops back down to a normal idle of
around 660 RPM...
Use the "Search" feature
and type in "idle hang" and you'll find all permutations
of this maddening problem.
My Viper almost did not pass Smog here in Cali
because the idle stayed up at 1200 rpm.
Fortunately it dropped down to a more normal idle just as the tech
was about to fail it.
The only...
Being nice to people when they ask questions about your car
spreads good feelings about Viper owners in general
and might keep your car from getting keyed in particular.
Is it that hard to spend a few minutes answering questions about your car?
Any politely asked question, no matter how foolish...
Check your oil and check your coolant level.
Just insurance.
The last time my Viper's temp went up inexplicably
the inexplicable became quite explicable
when I found most of the coolant mingling with the oil
courtesy of a defective timing chain cover gasket.
Not to say this is your problem
but...
