Figures, I was detailing my car for its first trip to show my parents and I found a huge nail/bolt in my tire. I only have 800 miles on the tires, the whole car for that matter. I have a decently long trip tomorrow, 200 miles each way, and the screw is almost in the sidewall, less than 1/2 in from the edge and I would say it is probably a size 8 or 10. Being that the viper is my daily driver, what to do for tomorrow??

1. Postpone the trip till next year, thanksgiving is only once a year....(not really feasible)
2. Go to Wal-Mart and plug it myself??
3. Drive it and get it fixed after the holiday??

After I get back, do I need to replace this tire, I know this is a hugely debated topic, but it is very close to the sidewall. I will take some pics and email them to those who can offer some expertise on this issue. Thanks a ton.

Happy Thanksgiving

Robert

Sorry about the screw...under THESE circumstances, one could consider taking the car to a tire place (good luck tomorrow...BEST bet may be an auto-truck stop as they generally have working crews) and let someone who KNOWS consider a plug for SHORT TERM (at LOW speed) to get you through the holiday. Described nearness to sidewall WORRISOME. Also, internal patch is better, but would hesitate to have just anyone remove tire and remount.AS I have posted before, I PERSONALLY try to get a new tire ASAP when this happens, though others have pointed to their faith and good fortune with properly applied plugs/internal patches, and vulcanization.

Do you know any Viper owners nearby who could loan you a similar tire?? The Viper Nation hangs tight!!!

How about a rent-a-car(a cheap one) for tomorrow, and let the Viper rest.

Good Luck!!

I just replaced tires. You could connect the dots and see the big dipper inside them, after 9000mi.Any gas station should do the job.If you haven't done it yourself,don't.11.40's @ 128.All day.Life is to short for smarter choices. When you get back, have it patched if you can't sleep at night.
