How does a 1/8 mile drag time compare to a 1/4 mile time.

    Local track is 1/8 mile. I am just wondering if guys here know their 1/8 mile times compared to their 1/4 mile times.

    Yea I know they are faster ha ha.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    your times in the 1/4 will be higher than in the 1/8 (mph and ET). Hope that helped..

    There is a formula that you can use to get an <u>APPROXIMATED ESTIMATE</u> of what you would've run in the 1/4 mile based on your 1/8 mile ET. You have to multiply the ENTIRE 1/8 ET by 1.6 something or other. I'll try & find it for you. There are different formulas depending on what mods you have, tires, NOS, etc.
    There's no replacement for actually going to a 1/4 mile track but the formulas definitely work. I've gone to both type tracks several times and when multiplying my 1/8 mile ET by the right figures, my 1/4 mile ALWAYS came out just right (all things being equal that is, making all your shifts properly etc).

    A Decent 60 foot..say 1.55 will give this relation
    1/8 6.9
    1/4 10.7

    Ive heard you multiply your 1/8th mile time by 1.55 and add 25-30 mph to your trap to get a good approximation.

    OK Michael. This just in from a very experienced Viper owner/racer (that actually drives his own car at the track BTW) that's gotten his Viper in the 9's.


    If your Viper is STOCK, multiply your 1/8 ET (all the numbers) by 1.52 to calculate an approximate 1.4 mile ET.


    With a modified Viper the ratio changes to 1.54. Good luck! 6.5 ET or less in the 1/8 mile & your smack dab in 9 sec 1/4 ET territory!

    Sadly, I have a few time slips that have a higher MPH at the 1/8 than at the 1/4. Where the hell is 4th gear on these things?

    This seems to work for me and for others. Even into the 9's.

    PS. Those high 12's (and a 13, doh!) were for research purposes only!

    I didn't even make it out of 2nd gear and got pulled from the track for no helmet and going under 9 sec.

    Couldn't hook worth a darn even though I started from idle. Driver error I am sure.

    I had to ask the starter how I knew when to start. HA HA
    Reaction Time .749 not too bad.

    60 time BARF 2.2

    Won one race and lost the second to a well moded Lightning Truck.

    In most people's experience harder or easier to hook on the road or the strip?

    Going into second car SHOOK like crazy, on both runs, guess it was wheel spin.

    Going home I checked just to make sure and sure enough just like usual, a little wheel slip at start and none going into 2nd or 3rd.

    Tires have 14.5K miles on them.


    Was VERY suprised how many people came over to get their picture taken with it. Everyone was real friendly. Even after telling them how slow I went they said SO WHAT look at your car MAN.

    The old NHRA formula was mutiply your 1/8th mile time by a factor of 1.5384 you'll find this is within 2/10's most of the time.... Example; My car went 6.90 in the 1/8th on radials and 10.68 in the qtr. mile. 6.90 x 1.5384 = 10.614.96 very close..

    I'm not sure what the conversion is but 8.0-8.1 @ 92-93 is what I typically will run in the 1/8 which is 12.3-12.4 @ 116-117 this is w/o nitrous of course [​IMG]

    I hook much harder on the street than the track with stock tires.

    BTW what was your times? My very first time at the track I ran a [email protected] w/2.19 60' it takes some practice.

    MES my time was a wretched 8.7. Our 60' times were almost the same it must have been that shift into second that got me. As I say the car SHOOK quite a bit.

    I guess it was wheel slip. Once again driver error I am sure.
