I read in the VOI packet that I-75 is under heavy construction around the downtown Detroit area and to avoid it. It also recommends using I-94 and M10 to get to the hotels. It just doesn't tell you when and what is the best way to get over if you are traveling up I-75 from Ohio.

So that's my question, what route should we take to avoid the construction on I-75?

I looked around on Mapquest and google earth and my guess would be to hope on 39 off of I-75 and take that over to I-94. Is this the best choice?

Any input/help appreciated. I can remember our caravan hitting road construction on our way to the Texas VOI in 2004. All our cars got sandblasted and stuck in significant delays. The locals knew about the construction and bypassed it. Of course they weren't caravaning with us.

I found this link on the Michigan Department of Transportation website. It explains how to get to Comerica Park from every direction avoiding the I-75 detours.

Comerica Park is about a mile from the casinos.

Hope this helps

Note there are lane closures on I-75 but there is no really good alternative when heading to the north central suburbs.

I used to live in Detroit many years ago so pardon me if things have changed but why not go up the Lodge to Southfield and then cut over to Woodward and then 75 via one of the mile roads If this is about Prefix in Rochester won't that work as far as leaving downtown Detroit?
Where EXACTLY is the construction on 75?

When I was there in June, we hit the construction just before Tiger Stadium. Got off onto Fort Street and took that downtown towards the casinos and ballparks. However, as you may know, it is not the best place to be traveling with Vipers.

The detour MDOT suggests is a nice alternate. Used that to get home and it was some of the best roads I was on my entire time in Michigan.

That works but would be quite a bit out of the way. As Jess mentioned the road work (at least one portion of it) is north of I-696. If you took Woodward all the way to Square Lake rd you would miss it all. But except for rush hour the lane reduction is not that big of a deal. The basic issue is I-75 is the only good route to go due north. Coming from the west I would suggest I-275 to I-696 to Telegraph noth to Square Lake Rd to I-75 and then follow the route indicated. From the east taking M-59 across is best. From the north I-75 is best.

If you're coming from the South and are going to Rochester I'd say get off at Southfield from I-75 then go up M-10 to Telegraph, East on Square Lake then back on I-75 North and East on M-59.
