2009 VCA Midwest Zone Rendezvous
The dates for this year’s Mid-West Zone Rendezvous will be August 7-9, 2009, with the event being held in conjunction with the 2009 Mopar Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. As you know, the years when there is no VOI event, there are zone rendezvous events schedule in each VCA Zone across the country. With VOI-10 being held in Detroit, we felt doing a re-run of the event would not be all that exciting for the members. Taking a look at available options, it was decided that joining up with the largest Mopar event in the country was a great choice as it would allow for the Viper specific events to take place plus have an outstanding venue for everyone to enjoy.
Friday will be a festive/scenic cruise through historic parts of Ohio, coupled with a poker run. The cruise will feature some exciting roads, scenic cruising, a few historic stops to view, photo-ops and shopping. Lunch will be served at a common meeting spot.
Saturday will be at National Trail Raceway where Viper Drag Racing, Viper Show & Shine Judging and the largest all Mopar Swap Meet & Manufacture Midway will be featured. A Mopar Memorabilia & Classic Car Auction will be going on along with many other Mopar related events. Big Daddy Don Garlits, Big ***** and many other special guests will be doing exhibition runs and signing autographs. If you have never attended the Mopar Nationals, you’re in for quite a surprise. 3000 Cars, 2000 vendors’ spaces and a weekend of everything MOPAR. For the women, Saturday will offer the opportunity to participate in a Longaberger Tour (extra fee - see website for details Mopar Nats Home) which will depart from the race track and participants can tour the manufacturing campus, the basket making facility, shop the stores and make their own basket if they desire. Lunch and other great attractions will be part of the tour. Saturday night will feature a barbeque in the Viper Pit…no pun intended. There is also great cruising at night for those wanting to drive their cars.
Sunday will feature the Viper Autocross. This will take place at the Indian Mound shopping mall parking lot, in downtown Heath. This will allow the ladies to do some more shopping at the various outlets if they desire or watch/compete in the Midwest Zone Autocross. A box lunch will be served for all the participants. The objective of the autocross, other than having a great time, and seeing who can maneuver the course the fastest is to indentify the top two drivers that will represent the Midwest Zone in the VCA vs. SRT runoffs that will take place later in the fall (Date at this time TBD, but its usually late September). The event will conclude at the end of the autocross session. For those that might not wish to compete or attend the autocross the same reserved parking and Tower Suite viewing of the Drag racing class finals will be available. The plan is to have corporate Vipers for the autocross competition to level the field, but obviously this can not be guaranteed at this time, so classes based on the Viper (Generation, Modified, etc.,) will be the backup plan if cars can not be obtained.
We will try and get a better application to upload soon. The Headquarters Motel will be in downtown Columbus and offer covered and secure parking. We will have details on the hotel soon as we are just setting up the room block and working out the final details.
