It's the middle of February, and despite the mild winter we are experiencing, I have a case of cabin fever. So I went and revisited my own in-car camera videos from years back to kill some time. I thought I would share my entertainment with my VCA brethren.

I have made quite a name for myself in the SCCA world by posting these videos. People just expect to see these sometime after a race weekend. I've had several people, some who I never met before, come up to me to say they've watched the action.

Race #1 is a favorite of mine (BTW, most of my favorites are NOT of me winning the race!); Mid Ohio June 2009 T1. This is a race where I didn't qualify very well, but raced into the lead, held it for a while, set a new track record, but ultimately spun and gave up the win to the pole sitter, John Buttermore.

Enjoy:

OK, this is the one that has me "most famous" (or infamous). This video is also the one youtube video of Nelson Ledges that gets the most views excepting for one showing two girls in bikinis jumping into the lake!

This is the first "hot" lap of qualifying for a race in May 2008. I was wanting to "let go" and really push the car hard. My crew chief is on the radio just before this video starts telling me to be ccareful because the tires are cold. I reply "I know," but evidently I didn't know enough!

That's some **** driving. I wonder how you guys still keep it as a non-contact sport. :) Its too bad about the cold tires thing. Just shows how fast things can get out of hand in the beast. Thanks for the clips I really enjoyed them.

OK, here's one where the end result is a little more in my favor:

I May of 2006, while waiting delivery of my first Viper race car, the builder of it loaned me a C5 Corvette to race. His son entered the same event in the car that won the 2005 SCCA Natioanl Championship. I out-qualified him by about 2/10s of a second because he couldn't get a good clean lap.

Watch the first lap and my rear view mirror, right around the 1:16-1:20 mark

This was my first SCCA National win, and man was I excited! Getting it done for the home crowd made it that much more special. Getting the win in a borrowed car, and against the builder's prize-winning creation made is extra, extra special! This was also the last time I would race a Corvette.

David--
Thanks so much from an old guy who would love to do that. I'm afraid I'm too chicken to maybe tear up my cars let alone another person's car. You are sure a great driver. I watched all the videos from 2009 Mid Ohio I think. You sure made a great Sun. Afternoon for me--Dave

Damn, what did the car look like after that tumble???

All four fenders, both rocker panels, and front rear bumper covers were trashed.

Ok, here's another good one: 2007 Summit Point. This was the first time I raced the T1 Viper after SCCA really slowed the cars down after the 2006 Run Offs. The Summit Point track record was set in 2006 by Andrew Aquilante in a Viper, but when I returned one year later, my Viper weighted 130 lbs more and breathed through a 45mm inlet restrictor vs the 53mm one legal in 2006. The record was 1:18.9, and in this race I set the fastest lap at a 1:19.4.

I felt pretty good about the event, even though I finished third. For most of the race I chased Lance Knupp, who was the 2006 National Champ in T1, and Andrew Aquilante, who won it in 2007. Pretty good company. I was caught near the end by Bob Kahn, who has many, many years pro racing experience...

Much needed videos to watch right now. I'm getting the itch even though I'm on track this weekend with PBOC.

How is the ACR-X coming along, have you gotten to ****** it yet?

I haven't even sat in it yet! :)

We are taking it to Road Atlanta on March 9-11 to test it. Even though it looks like my Gen 3 car, I am pretty sure it's going to handle completely different. We'll see...

I'll be running that NASA event at Road Atlanta as well (pending the weather).

Hope the car works out well for you. Can't wait to see some race footage and pictures. I'm also looking forward to watching the NARRA races in April, those will be extremely exciting.
