Did a search but couldn't find anything on the approved point harness spec.

What is the requirement for a below 12 second quarter mile car (besides 3" straps) I am wondering if it could be a 3-point type, or does it have to be a 4-point or 5-point?

As per the 2003 rule book:

"Driver: 10

Driver restraint system
Seat belt is mandatory in all cars. Three-inch driver restraint system meeting SFI Spec 16.1 mandatory in any car 11.99 (*7.49) or quicker, in convertibles running 13.99 (*8.59) or quicker, and all dune-buggy-type vehicles running 12.00 (*7.50) or slower. SFI 16.1 restraint system, when required, includes crotch strap and must be updated at two-year intervals from date of manufacture.See general regulations 10:5, 10:11"

I am trying to find the sections 10:5 and 10:11 on line for you. It is too much for me to type using only two fingers. ;)

Sorry but the 2003 Rule Book is not available on line.

We need to find out exactly what the SFI Spec 16.1 is.

It does make a mention of how many points the harness must be. All the book says is "A quick release, 3 inch ......harness......meeting SFI Spec 16.1...."

Maybe Tom @ BTR will see this and give you a better answer.

Thanks Jerome, I didn't know about the 2 year update rule (I had heard they deteriorate if the sun gets to them). Yes, Tom would be the guy to advise re 4 or 5 point system. Thanks. I'm in favor of a camlock 4 point (with crutch strap) but, where the 2 shoulder straps go into one "Y" piece.
