Any real world results vs. the PS2s? I'll be needing a new set of tires to replace the worn PS2s on my '08 in the near future.

OE Michelin's in-house testing, performed at the Michelin Technology Center, helped identify six key areas in which the Michelin Pilot Super Sport outperforms its predecessor, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2:

  • Road-holding on dry surfaces: Tests showed a 1.5-second gain on a 2,700-meter closed-circuit track.
  • Braking on dry surfaces: When decelerating from 100 km/h to a full stop, braking distance was shortened by 1.5 meters.
  • Road-holding on wet surfaces: Time was reduced by 2.5 seconds on a 4,100-meter closed-circuit track.
  • Braking on wet roads: When decelerating from 80 to 10 km/h, braking distance was shortened by 3 meters.
  • Total mileage on the track: 50% more laps.
  • Total mileage on the road: 10% greater distance.
but, there is no head to head testing between the Pilot Super Sport and the OE Pilot Sport PS2 C1 Viper tire

Same question as user CEJ, I will need a pair of 335 30 18's for my Gen II rear.....are they making them, or was pricing not yet released?

Aaron

Not sure if the word "predecessor" is used meaning that the new tire is a replacement for the PS2, so, I will ask the question. Does this tire replace the PS2 in their product line? Does that mean Michelin will no longer be supplying a tire for Gen 2 OEM size ?

Glad to see them released! Too bad that the 345/30/19 is more expensive than the PS2, but it looks like most other sizes are cheaper.

Holy $#!^ those are expensive!:omg:
Does anyone else think it' rediculous?! $536 per rear?! Come the Fug on!
Screw that, I'll take the Nitto NT05's (for the street) anyday over that BS. And for the track, a set of Hoosiers is less and will dust the Super Sports off.:nono:
Up yours Frenchy!:curse:

These are great street tires. Have them on my 09 (19/20)
The ride much smoother than the Nitto's on before. Stick better, are quieter, and do not follow the road grooves like the nitto's.

They hold power better and corner better.

Maybe the comparison is not fair, as the Nitto's were pretty worn out, but I think people will be very happy with them.

They even come with a 30,000 mile tread warranty, but it is not applicable to Vipers because the tires cannot be rotated to even out wear.

For my use, these are a real winner.

Prices posted are list prices. Would expect our vendors to work on the prices.

Saw the $1,500 VPA price this morning for the full set, so I think I'll be giving these a try.

Thanks for the info Luke, and what blows me away is not that the tire is so much quicker on the track, stops better, and is superb in the rain, it is that the tire lasted 50% longer . That is off scale for track guys, and the 10% better for street use again shows that Michelin really did their work. Pricing is pretty similar to the last tires too, with the backs being fairly high , but the fronts being relatively cheap.

You have been giving Viper Guys info since 1999 , and we appreciate you keeping us up on things, as those of us that know you realize this is just a small part of your busy day, but you have the passion to keep us informed.

I know they will last longer than the NT05's and I'm sure they handle better than the Invo's, but I wonder how they stack up in straight up performance to the NT05's?

I rarely drive my car in the rain (only if I'm on a road trip or get caught in a summer pop-up shower), so the wet performance doesn't really concern me. I'm not thrilled with my Invo's and I'm thinking about the NT05's. The SS's aren't much more money, but I want the best handling street tires I can find.

VPA definitely has the deal. Saw the sale in an e-mail from our regional pres. Looks like I'll be ordering tires in a few weeks!

Remember though that the Viper OEM PS2 with the C1 compound designation has the same compound as the Pilot Cups. Given this will the Super Sports actually outperform the "Viper" PS2. Not all PS2s are created equal.

Is it the same compound? I'd believe it since the 10,000 mile PS2s on my car are damn near shot...I had never heard that before (not that I've tried looking).

Just bought a set of super sports from viper parts of america for $1495! With free shipping. $169 cheaper than tire rack plus shipping savings! Do these tires have a viper specific compound?

I've been told by the engineer that worked with Michelin on the tire package that yes the PS2 C1 OEM Viper tire has the same compound as the Cups. Just had it confirmed by him today. Luke from Tire Rack confirmed same thing. The SRT engineer can't really speak to the Super Sports as they have not tested them.

By all accounts they will definitely last longer than the PS2, especially if the C1 tires have a softer compound. Given that the Ferrari 458 and 599 GTO come with them stock, they must not be all bad. Interesting testing too: http://www.motormorph.com/?p=3523

Most comparisons I have read say they are as fast as the Cups on dry surfaces (which seems nuts given the tread pattern alone), but blow them away in the wet.

that is an interesting read but, in reality it was the product launch in Dubai and the Pilot Sport PS2 C1 was not in the mix for any comparison data
