Yes you must tape the stripes. If you don’t you will burn through the clear on the edge of them. My neighbor found out the hard way.
Saleen painted these cars just like the genII. Solid paint first with clear coat. When you option for stripes they tape them up, rough up the clear, then paint and clear just the stripes. Then they remove the tape once polished. This is what forms the ridge or edge that you feel. If you don’t tape them off when you use a machine you will feather out the edge of the clear and it WILL BE NOTICEABLE.
