I'am thinking about doing gears, major question is how the odometer is fixed for this, is there a gear u change in the trans, or in the rear end to fix the speedo. Also what is the best streetable gear

You just buy a box like this one and set internal dip switches for the gears you have in the car.

You must be registered for see images

Several Viper parts places carry it. This pic is from: http://www.roeracing.com/index.html?token=109205998-859086541-1840046675&A=12&B=Di fferential

The 3.45 gear is a nice street gear for your model year. 2001 has larger bolts and the 3.55 is the way to go. Just know that when asked " how fast will it go" the honest answer will be slower if you change from stock 3.07 gears

I agree. The 3.45 is the best streetable gear. I hit the limiter right around 135 mph in 4th with the 3.45's.....

Also, the speedo recalibration box was a breeze to install.

GO FOR IT!!!

ViporXXX,

The difference is "not much". One benefit to the 3.45's is that if you plan to run the car in the Quarter Mile, you can get through the traps in 4th gear. My undersanding is that you have to go to fifth with the 3.55's.

My 3.45 chunk was 1500.00. Great thing was I got to keep my 3.07 chunk as well. Install cost was minimal. (for me)

With a 3.55 gear (actually its a 3.54 that is available I think) 4th gear will be good until 132 mph, so you wouldn't need to hit 5th unless your car is making some serious power. (Like upwards of 650 to the wheels)

Big Jim is correct.......interesting demographic on gears.
3.45 is the dragracer gear of choice in TX! Seems l0ocal there! And the shift-interval between 3.55 and 3.45 does not matter til you are in the low 11s as Jim says......

For overall street performance, and widely available STRONG Dana-Spicer gears, go w/ 3.55. Pushes you back in the seat more than 3.45. The speedo kit is a snap as well. We sell em Relatively cheap, and we PRE-CALIBRATE it for you when you get your gears from PartsRack.........

Hey guys, whats the difference between 3:45 and 3.55???
I have a 2000 GTS and have been considering some upgrades.
I read an article by Jon B stating going to a 3.55 would be his
first, best choice.
