Things I have noticed - \'05 SRT vs \'03 SRT

Traded my old '03 Red SRT10 in last Saturday for a new '05 Yellow SRT10. A few differences have been obvious from the first drive:

1. The new Viper does not track/wonder/pull on bad road surfaces near as much as the old one. If I had to but a number on it I would saw that it is reduced by at least 50%. Maybe they have changed alignment specs or the old one was always out of spec? Only had 3900 miles on the '03 and it drove the same on the way to trade it as it did the first day I got it.

2. The radio has a better sound to it than the '03. Had them both side by side comparing this. Not dramatic, just a little cleaner with better base response. I have a set of the Polk db650s that I plan to install later today.

3. The side bolsters sure are tighter in this one! Ok, they really just have not "grown" to fit me. They really don't seem to be as tight as the '03s were when it was new.

I will update the list as I have more seat time in the '05.

Traded it at Dallas Dodge. I had never been to the dealership before the day I bought the new one.

I really just wanted to see a Yellow SRT10. After I was there for a few minutes, they asked if I would like to see what they could do on a trade. I was very happy with both the trade in and the selling price of the new one.

I don't have what I would consider "issues" with cabin heat or sill heat in my 2005 but since I'm not a former 2003 owner, I don't have anything to compare it to. Plus I drive like an old lady.

On side note - I have no idea what folks mean when they say Vipers cannot be everyday drivers. Mine won’t be a daily driver but still, I think it's very easy to drive, comfortable, and well behaved. I think just about any 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup truck is far more uncomfortable than my Viper yet lots of guys drive those everyday.

John:

The sill temp in 2003-2004 is intense. There are ways to deal with it (exhaust and/or shielding), but it is unpleasant in stock form. Drastically lowered door sill temp is a side benefit of the Corsa Track.

When people are referring to not using the Viper as a daily driver, they are not referring to lack of ability to drive one as a commuter car. They are saying that you appreciate how much more suited it is for the track than for casual, passive street driving.

There is one VCA Member who mentioned that he has 30k miles on his daily driven SRT-10.

Did they have that extra brake Caliper on the 2003 thats on the rear wheels opposite the 6 piston caliper on the 05?. I noticed it when I looked at an 05 over the weekend and didnt remember seeing it on the 03.

All calipers are 4 piston. And yes, braking system is unchanged save color - "extra" caliper is parking brake.

Looking for a 04 or 05 SRT-10, is the cabin heat or sill heat is different between the 2 years?

Thank you for your comments before I purchase.

Re: Things I have noticed - \'05 SRT vs \'03 SRT

Sometime in 2003/2004, there was a change in the sidesill insulation. However, I cant say for sure when. My 04 built in Feb 04, (a mid-late 04 car) has never had a sidesill heat problem, and generally seems cooler than a customers early (sept.) 04 car. However, through dealerconnect and star parts, the two cars have the SAME insulation (or at least thats what the computer says)... go figure.

Now, 2005 did get a new part number for insulation, yet by appearance it looks identical to my 04, and sill temps are the same as well.

Perhaps is was a simple Part # change from 04 to 05, even though the real change occured as an 04 change? I am unsure, no way to REALLY tell unless you have an 03, an early 04, late 04, and an 05 to take apart and compare, and run temps on as well.

I've got an 04 and have never had the heat problem. I've put 6,000 miles on it, some of it in hot weather.
