VIRUS\'s being sent to me from board members email addresses!

I day or two ago I got an email from the "postmaster" at the domain who hosts my mail forwarding address. They said I had tried to send an email to Sean Roe and it was undeliverable, and so here was the original mail attached as a file. (virus i'm assuming since I can't send mail from my mail forwarding address and I haven't even emailed sean since my hi flow install like a month or so ago)Ithink someone has harvested our emails and is sending out virus's and making them looklike they are from members here. [email protected] is a forward address done in case this ever happens. If It gets worse, I'll cancel it and change to another forward and they never get my real address. Might want to look into it.

Here is the sean roe email:

Subj: Undeliverable mail--"don't drink too much"
Date: 4/22/2002 7:04:53 PM Central Daylight Time
    From: [email protected] (postmaster)
    To: [email protected]

    File: Cu.zip (41749 bytes)
    DL Time (TCP/IP): < 1 minute

    <HEAD></HEAD>

The following mail can't be sent to [email protected]:

    From: [email protected]
    To: [email protected]
    Subject: don't drink too much
The file is the original mail

What he said. There are no viruses coming from this board, the virus is using addresses from the infected persons address book/cache/sent list.

The viruses are not coming from this board, but the Email adresses that are being used are coming from here. Can we please rethink the practice of having a link at the bottom of every post that contains our Email address?

Is it really all that hard to have people click on Profile and then click on an Email link? It sure would cut down on viruses like this one and SirCam...

I would start scanning your hard drive. It definately was something.. but either secretly emailed something off to the creator with some of your info in it, or it is waiting for a specific date to come alive and cause mayhem. I would back up everything you need to have also.

I don't mind having everything how it is now. But everyone should look into how I have mine setup. I found a free place to set up a ghost forward account. (search for them on yahoo, google, etc) So when you send me an email you see my address as [email protected] however, that just bounces your email to my real address, which you could only find out if I reply back to you. This way, if nigoo2 ever gets harvested or sold to a spam list, and i start getting all kinds of junk, I just delete nigoo2 and create a new forward account, and update my profile. After having my real email put on a million lists about 2 years ago and finally have to start all over with a new address, I now know better than to post my real email on the internet unless I absolutely have to.

What if I use Microsofts System Restore that comes with XP? And set it back to a date prior to getting that e-mail? Will that get rid of the file and virus? Thanks

Search YAHOO for Symantec Security Response. There is a free download that removed the klez virus from my computer.
