Hi guys, looking to buy a viper and came here to get some info. Since I have read lots of post here referring to crankshaft damper coming lose... I would like to know what year does this problems affect ?
Is the new engine started in 2008 has the same weakness ?

thanks.

To my understanding it was only the early 2003/4 cars, though I'm not 100% sure on that one. The 08 would likely be totally fine as it was the 4th generation of engine. If anything I've only ever heard about this affecting the gen 3 cars (03-06). I'm not sure if mine has ever had anything done to it, but in nearly 110,000 miles I haven't had a problem with it.

All years from 1992-2006 could have this issue. But the big one was the 2004 and early build 2005. Seemed to be the early build yellow '05 cars. The bolt changed from a SAE thread with a 1 1/4 hex head to a metric thread with a 21mm hex head. I found many during my inspection process at the old Viper Days events. For the most part the 2008-2010 engine are bullet proof.
