I'm looking at web site host services. I've come across InMotion, JustHost, GoDaddy and a few others. I've read some good and bad reviews but they're inconsistent.

I was just wondering which hosting services do people use and what are some good ones.

I use iPower (Domain Names and Web Hosting by IPOWER). It's like $100 a year (+$9 for domain privacy). I don't have any complaints, but I don't use most of their services...my website is fairly basic.

$100 a year seems kinda steep. The ones I was looking at were around $7 a month. Do you remember any start up fees?

I have to use the Windows hosting version. Do they offer web page design utilities?

For one site, we use A+Hosting.
If their email servers were any slower, they'd be Timex Sinclairs.

For my other site, I host it on a friends server.
    Sorry.

I see lots of people recommending not hosting with the same firm you buy your domain name through.. I build and host with Yahoo, but don't leave any domains with them after they cancelled a domain I'd purchased from them prevously at the same time I cancelled the hosting for that website with them.

    - I've been reading recently complaints that searching for a domain name's availability on GoDaddy often finds it's been taken a few hours later by someone else. Then it's available after about 5 days.

GoDaddy is very unethical. And yes, they do hawk domain names and then try to sell them back to you. If you are gonna do a search on domain names it is best to do it with someone you know and trust. I use a friend in St Pete.
