Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Yo Dave>.
It sounds like the big SRT brake calipers on the front of your GEN2 is just what the doctor ordered. If it feels that good on the track with just the fronts, I can only imagine how good it's going to STOP with all 4 corners covered.
Do you think having the ABS will help in adjusting the front to back perportioning?
What do you suggest for the none ABS VIPERS?
Hurry up! Can't wait to stop like the SRT'S.

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Yo Bill :D Having the ABS will keep things in balance for the 01-02 cars.
For the non abs cars, I'll have hopefully 2 choices :usa:
First, all 4 SRT's with a pro valve, and second, moving the fronts to the rears (brackets are be made right now), like Archer did and he won a lot of races should cover that.
I'll be installing the rears tomorrow if everything goes right.
Final testing is Aril 22nd. :usa: :2tu:

Here's a pic of all 4 brackets for the SRT upgrade

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Dave,
I think your 2 choices for Non-ABS cars, technically, are identical. Some of my notes that I have show the Non-ABS front caliper piston sizes = SRT rear. So if you already have your front calipers and dont care about the styling differences of using an SRT front with GenII front (on the rear) that is the best choice money-wise.

You will *definately* need a rear prop valve. For both choices. My calculations may be wrong, but look at the stock front/rear bias differences between the 2 models...

SRT-10 Brakes:
* Brembo 4-piston front and rear.
* Piston sizes: 40/44mm front, 38/42 rear.
* Rotor sizes: 355/32mm front and rear.
* Piston Area front to rear ratio: 52.43%

STOCK VIPER:
* 4-piston front, 1-piston rear.
* Piston sizes: 38/42mm front, 36mm rear.
* Piston Area front to rear ratio: 83.2% (horrible)

For reference:
Surface Area of Piston. SA of circle = pi (3.141592) x Radius Squared
44mm = 1520.53 2 pistons = 3041.06
42mm = 1385.44 2 pistons = 2770.88
40mm = 1256.64 2 pistons = 2513.28
38mm = 1134.11 2 pistons = 2268.22
36mm = 1017.88 2 pistons = 2035.76
30mm = 706.86 2 pistons = 1413.72
28mm = 615.75 2 pistons = 1231.50

Calculations for SRT vs Non-ABS GENII:
GENII 2770.88 + 2268.22 = 5039.1F, 1017.88R = 6056.98 Total Surface Area. 83.19%

SRT10 3041.06 + 2513.28 = 5554.34F, 5039.1R = 10592
Total Surface Area. 52.43%

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Bill O,
Spacers are for caliper clearance on different wheels, ACR, and VR1's don't need spacers, stock 18" do, but 1/4" should make all wheels clear.

Bugeater(there out in force this year :eek: )
Thanks for info, but on Gen2 pistons, I can only measure 38/34mm, and these are off my 02. Any ideas?

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Well this is really starting to look promising. I am seriously interested in moving my fronts to the back and adding SRT calipers to the front, but I am only interested in this setup if I can HAVE A PARKING BRAKE! Just busting your chops buddy! :laugh:

BTW, you can't post a picture of your new brake kit with such road rash on your nose! You would do better to find a nice Silver ACR to show off the new brakes. I may know someone local that can help out in this area.

Keep us posted!

I gotta have my e-brake, it comes in handy when performing J-turns! ;)

BTW, not sure who your body shop is, but they are damn good. You gotta give me their info.

Hey Dave -- Judging by how much an increase in fluid volume you're looking at, I hope you're opting for a Gen III master cylinder. There's no way you're going to safely pump enough fluid on a stock master.

Be safe!

Mike, it's waiting in the wings to be installed if needed :D :2tu: One step at a time. :cool:

When you have a Race Yellow car, it stops better :headbang:

Everything is working out just fine, takes time doing it right.

Bugeater :D Your right, :2tu: after pushing out pistons, they do measure 4mm bigger than what goes on the pads surface.

Hey Dave,
Sorry I havent called...I will promise, if to simply congratulate you on your work...

Once I guinee pig ABS on my car, your setup will be added!

So glad to see these options getting worked out. We'll all have the brakes that the GenII should have had from the factory for non-viper tax prices!

Hey Carl,
That's on the list to try out but, I measured the pedal travel before and after installing the new brakes, and the travel was the same. So far so good, final testing is June 10th on a high speed road course :2tu: :usa: :D

The light in the tunnel is getting bigger :cool: :2tu:

It's not about pedal travel with new pads and full fluid, it's about worn pads, extended pistons, reservoir volume, MC fluid displacement volume and MC piston travel. If you haven't read the epic Adelberg and Roe brake battle, you could be headed for big problems. :p

Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14

Hey Dave got your voicemail, congrats!

As for Dean's point, its well taken - fwiw, I have an ABS master cylinder on my car, and it has brembo 4-piston front and rears. Granted, my piston sizes front and rear are less than the total volume of the SRT's but in my situation the brake pedal travel was not overly affected with worn pads up to the point of required replacement.

I think you will be fine with travel, but you wont know 100% until you burn a set down, or put a set of worn pads on as a test.

When I get an ABS controller and tone rings, I will be buying your brackets!
