Worth picking up a VEC 1 with minimal mods?

My recently purchased 1997 B&W GTS w/ only 4k miles. The only mod it came with was a Borla exhaust(older style). I am only planning to add filters, smooth tubes, HF cats, etc. and not move up to S/C for a year or two. I periodically see VEC 1's for sale for ~$200-$250 and was wondering if this would be a recommended addition with only bolt-on's? Any personal experiences in the way of gains or other driveability improvements using the VEC 1 with simple bolt-on's would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Second that - VEC2 is a valuable tool. The capability of the VEC1 is debatable.

Thanks for the replies.

I didn't know if this is a valid comparison, but when I had my Supra TT, I used a easy to use fuel controller with just bolt-ons with good results. I didn't move to an AEM standalone until I went to a 67mm single turbo set-up and all the supporting goodies. It sounds like I should just go to the VEC 2 or hold off until I chose my FI set-up.

PS. We have 93 octane in Wisconsin and when I had my Supra, I kept a 55 gallon drum of 116 leaded in my garage :2tu:

Thanks again,
Brad
