Just for fun go to www.Edmunds.com and look under "new cars".
The 2006 Corvette ZO6 is listed under "Sports Cars" along w/ 20 others.
The 2006 SRT-10 is listed under "Exotics" along w/ the Ferrari's and Lambos.
Hummmmm....nuf said!!

I never cared if the Viper was considered exotic or not. In light of the TC discussions and all the other crap people want to add to it I'd prefer it wasn't on any exotic list.

OK I’ll ask the dumb question, What does constitute an “exotic” car?

I bought my Viper thinking I was going to own an exotic car, but I never hear anybody call it an exotic.

I define "exotic" as having 5 attributes:

1. High HP, Great Handling, Great Braking (for its day)
2. Must have a large "WOW" factor. If nobody notices, it was just expensive- not exotic.
3. Not something you see every day. (tied in with "WOW" factor)
4. Awesome Styling
5. Must be a sports car, 99% of the time.

For instance, I do not see a Bently as exotic. Sports car? nope- but thats not what takes it off the list. Expensive as hell, yes. but not too much wow factor, and the styling is "OK."

The Vette as exotic? NO WAY. It looks just like umpteen thousand of is siblings, and will have clones everywhere within two years.

Well said Dan.....
I can drive my '03 Z06 and now and then someone will turn a head or two but driving the Beast is a total different story......it's different and that's Exotic. You can say the
same thing if you got a good looking girl hanging on your arm if she's a "looker" she's Exotic!!

I think women who are referred to as exotic implies a bit of color on her, usually a tropical/Asian/Latin/African quality. Nothing wrong with a lovely blonde hair, blue eyed babe, but I wouldn't call her exotic.

Dan -

Great criteria. Before I read your post, I would have said exotic =

1. High priced
2. Exclusive (related to #1)
3. Looks fast

but after reading yours, I think i'll have to adjust mine. Funny thing is that i have always thought of the Lotus Esprit as exotic and its not really all that fast.

Have to say - my favorit exotic has to be the enzo. Not certain if you guys have had a chance to hear it yet but the sound is incredible! Page Stevens (also a Viper owner) has one here locally and just drives the piss out of it.

Some day....

cheers -

Jay

I agree with Dan. An exotic should be a sportscar. Yes, Maybach's are hella expensize, but I wouldnt list them as exotics. I'd call them (and the like) ultra high class luxury. I think one reason our Vipers arent always seen as exotic is because they are American made. If they were made in Italy, exotic is all people would call them.

I agree with V10SpeedLuvr. My wife does not understand why I am buying a Dodge. She does not think they are that nice. I think exotics are foreign sports cars.
