"Colder" plugs are those that conduct more heat away from the center electrode. If you look into the end of a plug you will see that down in the hole, the ceramic insulator spreads out to contact the inside of the metal plug shell. In general, the deeper into the plug this contact is made, the hotter the plug will be. A cold plug will generally be recommended for racing or for engines that might be prone to pre-ignition for some other reason. For street driving in a fairly stock Viper, I wouldn't think it would be a good thing to use a cold, racing plug. However, if some guy with lot's of experience told you to do it, perhaps he knows what he's talking about.

Hey Todd,
Just wondering how hard it is to pull the trans out of that Taurus?
My girlfriend has a 90 3.0 (not SHO) Taurus Automatic, with a trans full of nuetrals. I was concidering swapping out the trans with a junkyard piece. I would be doing this on my back in my garage...is that doable??
(I know its not Viper related)
Cheers,

Interesting articles.Observation on a Dodge 5.9 and plus 4 plugs. The dodge 5.9 is prone to detonation.Dodge likes to say that it is pinging and not harmful. It might not be harmful but it can drive you nuts.Lower thermostat temp, cooler plugs etc never seemed to work. What does work is that a dealer can retard the timing with the subsequent loss of power and mileage or you can use 89 octane gas.89 octane gas fixes the problem. It just doesn't like 87.BTW those plus 4 plugs which are supposed to increase flame kernel, flame front and act like a timing advance almost in every case guarantee increased pinging in the 5.9.Might not be a bad idea in a Viper since we all put in high test above the requirements.Only the dyno would tell. I have plus 4 in my mother-in-laws dodge minivan, and my wintercar; 91 cutlass. with nothing but success. better gas mileage and throttle response.
For my viper I was warned not to stray from original equipment plugs.
I am glad to hear someone has now tried the plus 4 in the viper with success. Maybe in the spring i will give them a shot.
thanks
JIM
