Fever is over - the \"Mistress\" is home...

At exactly 10:45pm my 99 GTS rumbled into her new spot for the first time (much to the annoyance of the neighbors.) I have to say the 200 mile trip home was probably one of the most enjoyable I have ever had on route 50 out of MD. I was a little shocked at how eager she was to follow the road grooves, but so far so good. My fiancee has offically dubbed her "The Mistress" for some odd reason, but that will be what she calls her for the rest of our days. I enjoyed the fact that this one munchkin (just about toddler, no idea how old) was totally smearing the pass window of his mom's truck as I cruised by. You could almost read his mind "Wook Mom a Wiper!"

Anyway becasue the car isn't technically registered yet I keep it 5+/- the limit. I figure I'll have all summer to play so keeping the license is paramount now.

I have a few questions though,

1-) On the 99s does the idle feel like its bout to choke out/stall when sitting at a light? She rumbles happily, but there is a vibration I cannot place and just wondering if its me.

2-) The interior door latch is not funtioning, how difficult is it to get to this to look at it?

3-) She's throwing a check engine light. I'm sure I've read about how to get the code, but can anyone remind me?

4-) Is it normal for the entire population of drivers to slow down 10/15mph when they are in front of you? Or does it just feel that way?

Well the fun begins tomorrow. I'll need to call the dmv and find out how to bypass their [******] tax rules (they say the amount I paid is invalid and that the car is worth $50k+ so I have to pay taxes on that amount... arrggghhh.) Anyone with suggestions on this one please post.

I cannot wait until the March VA/MD meeting...

I had a check engine light on last week. The Viper tech reset the PCM fault, which was "multiple mis-fires". The PCM "learns" your car, and as the spark plugs wear, and the air and fuel filters gradually clog, pretty soon the engine runs differently enough to set off this fault in the PCM. (Thats mostly my guess, and partly the Viper tech's take on it) It doesn't necessarily mean that something is critically wrong, just a change in the status quo. I put in new plugs today, the engine light is off, and it runs real strong now.

As for evading taxes, perhaps you could contact Aurthur Anderson Inc. Did I say evading? I meant minimizing.

That is what my wife and the rest of my family call mine, that and "The Princess". Also, everytime I go into the garage to do whatever, she asks if I have been out carressing the Mistress. Oh well....

Could be NGR (Neutral Gear Rattle)?

It's about time you gotta Viper! You were driving us all bonkers with all your posts without a Viper in your signature. Now it's time to think about getting the Sean Roe Supercharger before the price goes up at the end of this month. :usa:

You just have the one Viper, right Bonk???

Just kiddin' ya. Even though your political beliefs are ALL WRONG, congrats and welcome. Hell, even I was starting to feel sorry for you when you were playing Dr. Frankenstein and trying to build your own Viper. See you at the track???

Re: Fever is over - the \"Mistress\" is home...

Um...wow... I don't know where to begin...

Well first off she is the GTS in JonB's "Fueling Fire" post about six months ago (the link should be below.) She was Zoomie's (yup the same one posted above) rental car that had a bad turn of luck but somehow the planets aligned and got our tortured souls together. Zoomie sold it to me under the condition that I never let her get parted out and I plan to keep that promise.

Now for the responces:

VPRVENM97, Birvini, & GCHDEALER - My digicam is down at the moment, but rest assured once I get it back online (and give Mistress her spongbath) I'll have my gallery filled to the brim.

CODY - I'm not sure, but its more of a stalling feel, like shes suffocating. At highway speeds shes purrs like a kitten so it could be something in the drivetrain. I'll keep that in mind.

Jamie - She has 15776 miles as of this moment. I've put 340 on her in the last 24 hours and another 210 tomorrow. No garage queen here baby...

SUN RA KAT - I'm going to spend my dough getting her in the condition I want first then do some serious research into add-ons. Don't think for a moment that the Roe on ebay wasn't on my favorites list though...

2ViperChuck - I was actually buying the parts I needed to get her roadworthy before she came home. As for the track..............time will tell...

Randall - (I love cliches) My bottle of mountain dew is 2 liters... How many liters does your new car have?

In all seriousness the difference in taxes from what I think is fair to what "they" think is fair is about $1500. I don't mind paying for a $20,000 car (which is about the wholesale mine is worth) but they want me tp pay for near MSRP on a salvage titled car. My thought is that if they think she's worth that much then they should cover the difference if I every have to sell.

After spening so much time in her I have found my first annoyance - I really don't like the fact you can't direct cool air into the footwells or warm air into the chest/face area.

Bonkers,
i'm confused?in Kansas you pay sales tax on the amount you paid for the car not an estimated value.you should have a bill-of sale.i know people like to have a false bill-of-sale showing a lesser amount and i consider that stealing.i know you like liberal gov. programs so just take your medicine like everyone else.
:p btw,i have a total of 19 liters in my garage and more to come when i get my SRT :D

99's had pretty aggresive cams. What you're feeling is probably normal. They have sort of an odd lope. If the check engine light is on, you might get it looked at, but I'd change the plugs first. It's cheap, easy, and may solve your problem. I say the plugs need to be changed at 5-6k mile intervals. They just don't last long in these cars.

Bonkers,
i'm confused?in Kansas you pay sales tax on the amount you paid for the car not an estimated value.you should have a bill-of sale.

Delaware is *supposed* to be the same way. In fact I bought my old subaru for $1 and had no problems because it had a clear title. Thats the thing though, the bill of sale doesn't come from a dealer so they're not accepting it. The official bill of sale is lowball for the market, but that has nothing to do with the taxes (or my presumed avoidance thereof). In fact I have no issues with paying for taxes on the market value but I do have issues with paying taxes on a new car without having the new car.

If I have a car that is worth $20k, and have a bill of sale saying I paid $20k and have an independent dealership verify thats she's worth $20k AND have the insurance company's official estimate saying the market value is $20k then I fail to see where the extra $40k in tax value comes from.

Oh well, because of the snow they postponed the police inspection for another month so I'll have 30 more days of research-while-not-being-able-to-drive-it-time to dig up the truth.

Vic, Bigcarrot - I spoke with Heffner today and he's going to run it through a diagnostic for me. I'm sure its something simple (Zoomie personally thinks its just from being run without the gas cap on tight - a theory I'm leaning toward myself) but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I guess a change in plugs couldn't hurt anything so I'll check into when they were last checked on and go from there. Thanks...

Re: Fever is over - the \"Mistress\" is home...

Pics as promised:

120vipergasstationfire-med.jpg

This is how I first found her six months ago. As you can see the damage was widespread along the drivers quarter panel and rear. The passenger side was just as messed up.

120Drive_Rear_Qtr-med.JPG

This is todays pic before her bath (I finished after dark so no clean pics.) Mark covered up the damage with some rustoluim and as you can see the $5 repair did wonders.

120Facia_Damage-med.JPG

This is a close up shot of the exterior damage. I have a new taillight and reverse light inbound (Thanks JonB) but there was severe paint damage along the side.

120Snake_in_Grass-med.JPG

I love this pic.

120Door_Panel_Pass-med.JPG

This is the beginnings of the interior damage. As you can see the passenger panel is wasted. The fire crawled up both the inside and outside. Once I remove the damaged panel and get a good feel I'll decide whether the whole door needs replacing. I have new panels care of eBay.

120Seat_Hole-med.JPG

This is the biggest headache area. The fire burned up through the floor and created a nice little hole through everything. I have a new sill inbound (thanks again JonB) but the seat, plastic backing, carpet, and the hole itself are issues yet to be resolved.

120Pass_Hole-med.JPG

As you can see from this closeup the hole isn't really impressive, but it may become quite an aggravation to repair.

????????????

Either you're wrong or every Viper I've ever seen is screwed up.

On my GTS the "arrows" point up in the back and down in the front, kind of pointing out the direction of rotation. :)

Glad to see you've finally gotten your snake, Bonk.

Luckly the interior fire started after the other fires were put out. Otherwise the poor bride would have a nice little scar on her **** today. I watch my fiance have trouble rolling out of the passenger seat and am amazed the bride did it in panic mode without (more) serious injury. The fire was full blaze on the pass.side qtr panel.

Re: Fever is over - the \"Mistress\" is home...

Slight updates / corrections on the history of "Mistress".
The bride had actually exited before the refueling began, but was standing beside car, between car and pump in wedding dress when fuel shut-off did not
and fuel spilled and caught fire. It was a very good thing she was not
in the car.. would have had to put her arm through and on the fire to exit.

Royal & SunAlliance Insurance
paid 'actual cash value' - one lowest price car they
could locate ( an auction car in Va. Beach ), not recognize NADA or market
average, no 'mediation', $20/day equivalent rental, no costs of finding and
transporting replacement ( Va law), color 'not relevant', etc. etc.

Nice pics, Bonkers.
