A few local guys got together yesterday at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) for a great day of 1/4 mile mayhem. There were two Vipers (mine and a stock Viper) and a couple of really evil 8-second Mustangs that Jason Heffner built. There were a few other superstock cars there using the track also.

Jason Heffner piloted my car to a 10.20 ET @ 140.58 MPH! Once again, this sets a new record for a supercharged car (no nitrous)!! The truly amazing part is that my car was faster than several race-purpose only cars that were there. I pulled up in a car running 93 octane fuel and the MPH was 20 MPH higher than any of these cars!! I can't tell you how impressive it is to be able to take a car in full street trim and put down world class numbers.

Once again, Jason Heffner deserves all the credit. Not only can he build them, he can run them too!!

Those times are amazing! I would guess with 1.5 short time ET streets at the very least were used. I was just down in MD for business. The next time I go down I will make it a point to stop by Heffner’s shop.

Gary, no flame but every post I read about your car states "No Nitrous"

I find that statement interesting as a boosted car is basically the same as a nitrous car.....

You see a supercharger on it's own doesn't make horsepower. It forces oxygen into the cylinders allowing you to burn more fuel and if you burn more fuel you make more horsepower...

Nitrous on it's own(like a super charger) makes no horsepower, It's non - flammable. It does however provide more oxygen allowing a car to burn more fuel again the end result is more horsepower....

In short a boosted car is a boosted car.

Anyway, Jason has done a nice job with your car.............Enjoy

Hey Lee have not talk to you in awile. I think Gary is talking about running a supercharger by it self and not a sc and nos like some guys. Some guys have put down good numbers but they are using both.

Congrats on those times Gary and Jason but I am sure that thing will go 9s
with a couple more passes....

Very nice Gary!! Congrats to you and Jason both! If you can run a 10.2 on May 2-3 you may be sitting pretty for some goodies!! :D

One question, what type of Halfshafts are you using?

Gary - very nice ET, I may have to talk to you about your suspension setup! That's a new high water mark as far as I know.

A bit curious on your MPH, however - if memory serves, you ran 142 mph last time, but only 140 mph this time. However, you've upgraded your car. Was the weather much warmer this time out, or ..?

Gary,
That's a lot of power and great et!
Question, I talked to Dave at ProPower in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I was looking to build a stroker motor. He said I should call Jason Heffner and that he built a custom stroker crank for your engine. Do you remember how long it took for them to build one and maybe comment on the cost?

Thanks,
Ross

Consider this: Tony A. ran a 10.48 at 137 in his Roe blown car which has ~250 less rwhp than Gary. I think Tony may have had a better 60' time than this one, but I still would have expected Gary's mph to be 8-10 mph higher than Tony's. Thoughts?

I think Tony has more than just a Roe blower to put down 137 Trap speed.

Gerald

Geralds right, I had headers too.
However it was on 100 octane ul since I only had the MSD retard on a few days at that time. I haven't ran with the vec2 yet but I believe it will be as fast on 93 octane with it as it was on 100 with the MSD. There is more on the way though :)

Nice numbers from Jason and Gary.....and I bet there is more there too. As far as Gary's mph.....sometimes when you spin it will make more mph. So if it was more before, that may be the reason.

Tony didn't have anything other than the typical bolt-ons Sean used (minus the rockers, which I don't think Tony had), which made ~600 rwhp. Gary's car is ~850 rwhp, and I was just curious about the small difference in mph. I'm confident I could have driven it to a 13.5 at 115. :) I bet there's a solid 9 in Gary's car somewhere down the road.

I couldn't quite read the 1/8 mile mph, i think its 105. I can't imagine the pull on the top end to go from 105 to 140 in the last half of the 1/4, now that's power.

Thanks guys. I agree with what some of you have already said. I would have thought the mph would be slightly higher. The car did run 142 yesterday on a couple of passes. The weather was warmer yesterday but the other differences were that we went from a drag radial that is 25 inches tall to an ET street that is 26 inches tall. The other major difference was that Jamie Furman was driving last time and I was driving this time. I has become quite apparent that I am no match for his driving skills. I'll try to post a video of this run later. The tires we were running are Dan Blacks old ones. The date on the tires says that they were made in 1999 which would make the tires four years old which as we know is far past thier shelf life. We'll be back at it soon with a new set of tires and maybe Jamie back at the wheel. We'll keep you posted.

Gary, was that on slicks or your P-Zeros?

I was using the ET Streets on Purner wheels. For a long time, I've been unable to use slicks and skinnies due to the StopTech brakes. I've since remedied that and the difference is obvious. My ET Streets are about 4 years old (just found that out today), so we should do even better with a fresh set the next time around.

Congrats to Gary and Jason! You guys using the stock clutch or the RPS with all that HP?

Thanks Larry. We're using a stock clutch. It held up pretty well under Jason's careful driving.

Interesting.

Sounds like there might be a 9 second Super Charged viper. :)

Lee,

Thanks for taking the time to "tutor" me in the ongoing supercharger/nitrous debate. The point I'm trying to make in stating that I don't use nitrous is simply as a differentiator of other cars that use boost PLUS nitrous to achieve high horsepower and low ETs. I'm simply stating that I don't need nitrous to make the dyno numbers or low ETs/high MPH on the track.

There are many reasons why I prefer boost over nitrous. 1) I don't have to change a bottle, ever. 2) Every time I've ever been to the track with nitrous cars, there are nitrous "events". As I recall, the last time I was at the track with you, you had a nitrous event that destroyed your airbox. Right?

I like the reliable, full-time nature of boost.

Thanks, Casey!! I'm using the Unitrax halfshafts with their safety loops. They have held up perfectly.

That is correct! Originally, I was planning on stroking my motor to 540 ci and ordered the Moldex crankshaft from ProPower. The promise for delivery was about 12 weeks. After about 6 months of excuses from the supplier, I decided to supercharge my car instead. I think it took them closer to 9 or 10 months to deliver what they promised.

I still have the complete stroker rotating assembly (Moldex crankshaft, Manley piston rods, and Ross forged pistons). I paid $8500 for the whole deal, but would be glad to sell them to you for a reasonable price if you're interested. It will definitely save you a lot of time and aggravation (and a few bucks to boot!).

That's correct and a very good observation. I think it's also an indication of what this car is capable of when it finally "hooks". The top end of this car is nothing less than "controlled violence"! It never ceases to amaze me how much fun this car is. Docile yet ferocious!!!

1/8th: 6.6 @ 106 mph
1/4: 10.2 @ 140 mph.

Or... 34 mph in 3.6 secs. That is -smokin-. By way of comparison, on boost AND a bottle my car ran 6.7 @ 111 in the 1/8th and 10.1 @ 152 in the 1/4, for 41 mph in 3.4 secs... not a whole lot quicker

[******] uppity SC-only cars are closing in !
