My son drug a fireworks box on the rear of the GTS, and put some nice scratches across an area about 12" wide and 5"long. Kids, you gotta love 'em. I used Zaino Z5, but it had very little effect on the scratches. What would you recommend I try next?

 :usa:

They don't appear to be under the clear coat. I was surprised that the Z5 didn't have much effect on them. When you rub your fingernail across them, you don't feel any bumps/roughness. But they certainly look pretty bad on the blue stripe. The scratches on the silver aren't as noticeable.

I was trying to avoid going to the body shop, but that is probably where the car will have to go in order to get the scratches out. Thanks. Newt

You can take them out easy...NO BODY SHOP NEEDED!

Get some 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound Liquid, a foam applicator, and some elbow grease...Remember, the only thing that removes scratches is HEAT (your high speed elbow grease, but don't "push" real hard, just firm) and an abrasive (3M FCRC, will in no way harm your clear coat, at all)...follow up with 3M or Meguires Swirl Remover to remove any "haze"...You can get all the above at NAPA...Take a "before" and "after" pics...

Better yet, use a 6" Porter Cable Random Orbital buffer, if you have one...There is no substitute...

I've had some luck with GS27 scratch remover - works sometimes, doesn't work other times, depends on the scratches.

Per Gerald's message above, you can remove many of these kind of scratches by hand with the 3M fine cut rubbing compound. It does take some effort, but I've done it several times. I have a professional buffing machine, but I always prefer trying by hand first, it's also less clean up as well. Follow with something like Meguier's polish (their step #2 I think) then Zaino. Good Luck!

Try 3m 39009 SSR by hand or with a Porter cable random orbital buffer and a foam pad. If that doesn't work wet sand with 2000 grit and soapy water then follow up with 39009 like stated above. Then Zaino.

I will be flamed but Zaino *****. I put five coats of Z-5 on my sapphire blue ACR with the hopes it would remove or hide a bunch of scratches the car had when I bought it. The only thing that I found that did remove an overwhelming majority is my Porter Cable Sander/Polisher (Lowes $109) and Einszett Paint Polish If that is not abrasive enough, then try Einszett Lack Politur then follow with the Polish and then wax it with whatever you please. I use P21S Concours-Look Carnauba Wax . The P21S is not a synthetic wax, it's a carnuba wax based product. I don't use the synthetics on the Viper (but I do use it on my other vehicles) as I just wax it more often with the P21S (it appies and removes like butter...but without the greasy mess ;) ). Just my 2 cents...

Here's my two cents...Don't buy those NAZ1 POLISHES!

The line of 3M products work very, very well...Fine Cut, Medium Cut, Finishing Glazes, to remove clear coat scratches...And 3M has been in the business since 1949...RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA!

Follow up with Zaino, Pinnacle, PS21, Meguires, whatever you like...

Never even heard of the Germans, didn't they slaughter 6,000,000 ****, and recently screw us at the United Nations...Always buy American first, if possible...

Wow, all this from a guy with 2 german cars. Let's not start the B.S. on a scratch thread. Most companies today are global....let's start thinking like Humans. You just wait until the ferrengi are hovering over us in the spaceships.

I guess you choose to ignore DaimlerChrysler?

My wife is Swedish....Darn, I guess I should have bought American. Yeah...I hate all Germans too  ...Luckily I'm American and we've never done anything wrong. My best trait is my humility  :smirk: .

Dodge, division of Chrysler. Owned and run by Daimler/Chrysler. Headquarters and financial center? Stuttgart, Germany. Head of Chrysler = Dieter. Dodge = Wolfgang. It may say DODGE, but it ain't the same guys who built the K-car! GM owns SAAB, Ford owns Jaguar, BMW owns Rolls Royce. The money flows to the parent company. You can be nationalistic as you want, but it's kinda like being a racist in the 60's. You have no clue how out-of-touch your ideas seem to most of us. Back to the scratch....I like the 2000 grit paper and hand polish idea. Can't do harm with fine paper unless it goes over a sharp corner where ther clearcoat is thinner.

Who do you speak for?

For the record...I don't give a flyingphuck how "out-of-touch" you think my opinions are...If this is a global economy, the rest of the globe needs to get with the program...I am dog tired of carrying everyone!

Maybe you could put out a memo to your Liberalpussybuddies across the pond, and tell them they are supposed to be kicking in...as opposed to assslamming the US every chance they get...

I hope you mean 2000 and not 200. 200 would be suicide.

I share much of the pro-US stance (just not quite so obstinate about it). However, in this case the engineering, manufacturing, marketing and vast majority of supporting headquarters are in the US for the Chrysler Group. Profits, when there are any, are a small percentage of the revenue. This is very unlike Japanese, German, etc with transplant manufacturing sites. Most of their other aspects are off-shore. Also of note Dieter Zetsche is the CEO and Wolfgang the COO of the Chrysler Group. Neither is directly in marketing so neither has a Dodge or Chrysler (brand) title.

I see your point, Gerald. No one was speaking for me.

Bring it to the dodge dealer and say i need a quick favor can you help me? have the detail guy use a buffer on it and then use a polishing wax, toss them $20 and go home. It will take a total of 5 minutes.

Sorry, really didn't intend to piss off anyone. No liberalpussie here, I just know from experience where the money from my purchases really goes. Just cause the gas station says Texaco, it doesn't mean the money stays in the US. If the oil came from the middle east...Just because a PT Cruiser says Chrysler, doesn't mean it's American (Built in Mexico, American name, German owners) I love the fact we kicked ass in the war(s) and that the osamas, talibans and saddams of the world are hard at work hiding in caves, deserts and bunkers. George W did the right thing and the Germans and French governments SHOULD have backed us up. Truth is, thier rulers change just as quick as ours. Four years from now you'll see different US, French and German leaderships. Can you imagine if Al Gore had won? Support Americans by being boring like him? All in all, the world is so closely tied together now, we all have to learn to get along.
Yes, I meant 2000 grit paper! Sorry! I hope no one took that advise!

Great advice - I just got brushed pretty bad on my rear bumper in my M Roadster, so I am going to use your products and see if I can get the scrapes and haze out.
