How can you RT/10 guys stand \"top-less\" speeds over 120 mph?

I took my RT/10 out for a few quick 100+ mph sprints recently (on a closed track, of course  ). After a few passes I ventured into the 120+ mph area but I simply did not feel comfortable at those speeds given the wind and noise in the cockpit. The car had plenty of power remaining since I was only in 4th gear and it was an incredible adrenaline rush, but I just don't know how you guys do it "top-less". I have heard stories of 150 mph with the top down and it just does not seem possible given the noise and wind that I experienced at 120.

I have only been 139 on a closed track , with the stereo up I did not notice the wind noise.

Re: How can you RT/10 guys stand

I've been over 150MPH (closed track) with the top off and it is indeed a hurricane inside the cockpit over 120MPH, but I doubt that it's any worse that riding a motorcycle at that speed without a helmet. ;)

Actually, with the side windows up and the rear glass removed it's not too bad. Usually, I'm more concerned with traffic (busy track) than I am wind buffeting at higher speeds.

Certainly it would feel more quiet and secure in a Mercedes sedan at those speeds, but I actually want to feel the speed when I'm driving fast. Both for fun, and for a point of reference.

I've done about 175 top off. And it was indeed on a closed track (Chelsea). At those speeds you do not notice the wind as all your marbles are concentrating on driving. The RT/10 above 150 is quite the handful. Much better top off than soft top on. My soft top buffets incredibly at speeds above 150. This talk is making me want to go out for a drive.

I must be getting older (34 now). While driving at high speeds, I keep thinking, "I am one tire blow-out away from losing my life". Oh well, speed is like sex ... you know it can get you in trouble, but it is just too hard to resist.

Why do you guys take the back window out? Does it help with wind?

Exactly, definite improvement at those speeds. Over 150 without the top and no problem.

I've had my baseball cap hit the back of a car in the other lane at about 160 mph. No, not really, but my hat is always wanting to come off.

150 with the top off will about **** your scalp off. I always have the back glass out.

Saw close to 150 in both SRT and an RT- What a rush

It's something I really miss with my GTS :(

165 without top and rear window.
Less speed with my Autoform top on actually...

"Somewhat" noisy, but with my 3" sidepipes and no cats, I do not hear the difference anymore, Hah, Haa!!!

165 ******* & windowless. No problems. Open exhaust, but impossible to hear it. Buffeting wasn't a problem, handling was no problem, but noise was indescribable. Actually it reminded me of watching the shuttle launch from 7-10 miles away.

160 then the rear window actually "blew" open. The little pins on the top didn't hold it. Thank god it fell in not out!

Buried needle in my 95 Venom 600 in AZ once...passenger wasn't very thrilled. Top off, V Mania windows installed. One fog light cover lost, went over my car and also just barely over Russ Iverson's car behind me (his RT/10 top was off also, and his windows were not installed). He did over 160 himself on that little speed blast.

It was a tad windy in the cockpit.

Public highway, early AM weekday, no traffic visible for miles.

170, top off, rear window out, side windows down, on the NYS Thruway @ 7:00 am on new road. Felt great, lots more to go but ran out of straight road.

At over 120 my cell phone floats..( I lay it on the rear of the console, near speakers) kinda funny looking.
Top off rear window out.
Cheers,

At 120 mph+ in an RT/10 with the top off, you have no hair left after the run is over! But then you have less wind resistance, and that is why bald guys can go faster than those who have a full head of hair in an RT/10 with the top off! But you get a sunburned noggin much quicker! :D :D :D
