Hello, I'm new here but have been reading for a few weeks now. I will be buying a Viper within the next 3 months. I originally wanted a Z06 but my wife brought up some crutial points which led me to the viper. I will be getting one in the 98-01 year range. I do have a couple of questions. Is there anyone around my local area who might be willing to give me a ride in one sometime? Also, how do you find out if all the recall work is up to date? Well, I hope to hear from a few of you please and I'm glad to be here. This forum seems much more mature than several other forums I have checked out. Thanks for any and all information.

I'll have to MapQuest "Spotsylvania" here in VA. If you aren't that far from Virginia Beach I think we can get a few together for you to sample. :)

in your area, contact Tom Sessions, Viper Tech and the head Viper Tech of ViperDays -- good head and very knowledgeable and all around 'good guy'. He lives/works normally in Wilmington, NC e-mail Tom Sessions "[email protected]"
Also, try 'Janni Cone' is/used to be President of North Carolina at " [email protected]"
If you are serious, and are willing to spend the time/money to make an intelligent choice, 'just do it'.
they will help

Hmmmm, North or Richmond puts you in Heffner territory, GaryA, Mark Cooper....they can give you a taste of supercharged Viper! Mapquest tells me almost 3 hours from Virginia Beach....but it never measures in Viper speed. :)

Welcome Dusty. You will find lots of help here. The viper club is a great group of helpful people.I was faced with the same decision 3 years ago. Vette or Viper ? I didn't research it to much. One of the best dealer is in my backyard(roanoke),so I just went and drove one. Half a mile down the road I knew I'd been bitten. Now I have 3 vipers(bank lets me drive them). The car is a ball. If you think it can't any better, take the car to the track. Happy viper hunting. Jim

Smart wife! Sounds like a keeper. Welcome.

As far as finding out if the recall work is up to date, if you post the VIN# on the board there is someone here that can find out if it's been done and other history on the car. When you get really serious, have the seller take it to a local dealer to confirm it's been done correctly and inspect for other things as well.

If you find a car in a distant part of the country, there is usually someone here that will check a car out for you first. I've even gone and test driven a MB for a fellow VCA member. In this case, I saved the guy a grand on a plane ticket on a car that was not worth coming to see.

Thanks for all the great info. I will soon be doing a lot of research to really figure out what year I'm interested in. We just moved into a new house so I have been really busy trying to get settled. To answer your question ViperJoe, I have always been a big Vette fan and still am but my wife just isn't that keen on them. She brought up the fact that you still see them quite often, while you don't see Vipers that often unless you live around somebody that owns one. If I'm gonna get a car that grabs attention, why not go with the rarer of the two. Plus she jokes that her going to the grocery store in one would be really cool. Well that's enough from me for now. Once again thanks for all the info.

Vipers and even Vettes take a beating by lowlife **** a$$holes that are jealous and take pride in spitting on or keying your pride and joy down the side. If I can't constantly see my car from the restaurant / store I am at, it stays home. It's a shame it is that way, but in this day and time there are some real hateful SOB's out there.

The ride difference from pre-00 to post 00 is huge. If you're a little bit on the whimpy side you may want to stay with the "creampuff" years (00-02). But fear not, they have all the punch as any of the previous years.

Thanks for all the info. As soon as I am good and settled in the new house I'll be much more aggressive in searching.
