Viper friends Please don't take me wrong, the truck is way cool for a truck. I am disapointed about the way Dodge is offering the truck to us. I think I would feel more like a winner if it were the same price as a regular SRT/10RAM and I won the VCA edition with comp Datona race tickets.We are all loyal Viper buyers, I have had 8 new Vipers my self and have attended 4 VOI's and many other Dodge and VCA event's. Just let us really win something Dodge, not just a chance to over pay. Ever here of it's a win win situation? Dodge could give all 50 trucks away and still win at the end of the day.

Joe, let's see how many of these guys posting negative comments still apply for the truck. Maybe their apps should be declined.

This is a great debate! Is a truck... just a truck? Not in this era! They'll probably write marketing books on the SUV and Pickup pehnomena.

The SRT Ram is an incredible vehicle! It has skidpad results that are BETTER than most "sports cars" (from what I understand... over 1G!) and out accelerates most of those "other" two seaters. Sure, it's bigger than you'd want for some Pocono time.... but then again, there is a whole series that televises these "two seaters with a humongous trunk" racing door to door on tri-ovals!

Look at it this way ....

It's got the history and the passion of a Viper (for $30k less!) with a HUGE trunk! AND room for a third person!

Now, as for the difference in expense for our VCA edition SRT-10 Rams.... we're talkin' Blue with white stripes here!!!! Plus, great extra cosmetic interior touches, PLUS entrance into Daytona, chow, and a special presentation in front of thousands of spectators. AND... Considering that it will look the same as the Pace Truck at Daytona, that's one of the least expensive "Pace Car packages" AND the most exciting that I've ever heard about.... and with only 50 available .... Wow!

So Joe are you saying the truck has better skid pad results than the Gen I and II Viper??? 1 G sounds a bit optimistic, though as a package it certainly performs extremely well ... for a truck. Don't confuse the performance with Viper levels. It is NOT a Viper.

My reasons for not joining in are more truck related (no place to keep it inside) and usage related. I do not know when I would ever drive it. When it is nice in the summer one of the Vipers would take precedence. I guess I am just more of a car guy and the thought of driving a truck does not titillate me.

A bewinged pick-up which, can't tow, can't haul and is so low it can't go off-road is definitely stupid. HOWEVER, isn't that what SRT is all about, extreme vehicles, ones which don't make any sense except to a dedicated few? How many times have we argued to Vette owners that all the sensible things just water down the experience?

I have no interest in the Ram SRT, but I'm awful glad DC had the guts to build it.

Results as good as a Viper? C'mon now!

What we have here is a niche vehicle... one that outperforms many so called sports cars, but has plenty of room for a really cool tailgate party!

Let's not go overboard on this.... it's a TRUCK! and as many are doing with trucks nowadays.... they are customizing, lowering, tweaking power, adding stereos, and then just cruisin'.... PERFECT for this SRT-10 Ram!

There are plenty of factory trucks that don't tow and don't go offroad (Lightning, Dakota R/T, etc)...so what? Not sure what the payload is on the Ram SRT-10 but I'd bet it's more than I've ever carried in my Dakota R/T. Not everyone buys a truck to have an off-roading work horse. Some of us get them because it's nice to be able to carry larger stuff every now and then and have something with rwd and a v-8 for a daily driver. My truck's bed is basicaly like a big trunk anyway - got a bed rug and a low profile steel tonneau that's never been off of it.

Bottom line is if you don't like the Ram SRT-10 then just don't bother with the raffle or the right to buy one of the other 49 trucks.

I've drivin 4x4 pickup trucks for 20 years as a daily driver,crappy gas mileage,so what, rarely use the 4wheel drive and rarely haul more than my motorcycle or atv. Who says you have to haul or trailer with a truck. This srt ram really appeals to me.How often do people max out there trucks capacity anyway?

Sorry even the SRT-10 in factory form did not pull over 1G. Even a professional driver in the one lap this year could not acheive >1G also.

I like to use the right tool for a given job,as using a 13mm socket/wrench and not an 1/2" on a 13mm bolt.

Sport car handling = Viper
Confort/luxury = Jaguar XJR,etc
Towing/carrying = Truck,SUV
Racing = race car
Shoping = SRT Ram/H2

but for some peoples:

Sport car handling = SRT Ram/H2
Confort/luxury = Race car
Towing/carrying = Jaguar XJR,etc
Racing = Truck,SUV
Shoping = Viper

Joe,

You're right, this truck would be a blast for things like football tailgate events.

On a personal level, I'm just pondering the pro & con of the Lightning at $33k, Ram SRT-10 $45k or VCA edition at $50k. I'd assume that the Lightning is just about as fast due to its weight advantage but far less fun due to being forced to accept an automatic.

Any more specific info on the VCA ed's added bells & whistles (beyond the awesome color, VCA mats/trim, and the Daytona experience) would be appreciated.

Just a note on the handling. At the PVO autocross in Detroit on a one minute plus course my time in the SRT10 Ram was three seconds slower than my time in a SRT10 Viper. This was with two laps total in the truck and many in the Viper. As you can imagine, it was a little odd autocrossing from the high view point so with a little practice my times would have improved. I belive others had similar results. Considering...IMO.....a stock SRT10 Viper can handily outrun a stock GTS/ RT/10 autocross or roadcourse than the truck would be real close to a Gen2.

I was disappointed that they rated the truck the same as the Viper: 500HP. They should have detuned it a bit, say 475HP or better yet a 450HP V8 Hemi. The Viper engine in a truck devalues the Viper and adds fuel to the knuckleheads who always claimed that the Viper had a truck engine. Good idea, bad execution.

I guess depending how they do the test you can come up with a >1 g number. Anybody can hang on for a 1/2 cicle, try steering that puppy on to a complete circle (200 ft)and measuring the time. Tire rack had the 200 ft circle set up for the one lap and they measured the lap time and equated it to an average g force. They took our best time running left and right and averaged the two runs. The above test does show a significant advantage to the SRT-10 above the rest of the street cars.

Anybody know anything about the interior ?? Is it leather or cloth/suede? Any special gauges or new Ram standard gauges ?? Does it have the 3 person seat that comes on the short bed Ram ?? Anything else come on the truck, such as a bed liner ?? A bed tonneau cover, soft or hard ?? Why did we go to Pirelli tires instead of Michelin Pilot Sports?? Is anyone working on the possibility to come up with some towing specs ?? thanks !!

Just finished reading the Motor Trend Truck of the Year article. The Ram SRT-10 was included. They were quite pleased with its performance but at 5000 lbs it is not in the Viper league. Lateral acceleration was stated as 0.81 g. Not bad, especially for a truck. However, again, not in Viper territory.
