What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

He posted something about only getting only 2 Viper Magazines this year and not wanting to read articles about the Neon. Went to check on which Mags I've received and found that I've only received the spring and summer issues. Where's Fall and Winter? I have to agree with DD. I don't want to read about Neons, Intrepids and Ram trucks in a Viper Mag.

Anyways...I logged back on to reply to his post and it's gone!

Wouldn't want y'all to feel left out in case you are not set up for the members only area, so here was the answer I posted:

There were several issues with Viper Magazine causing it to be delayed, It is planned to be mailed next week based on a note I received. Here is what the portion of the letter from Finona at JRThompson said pertaining to the Magazine said. Hope this clears up your question.

"....As you are aware, the Fall issue of VIPER Magazine has been delayed and I wanted to provide you with an update. It is currently being printed and will be mailed out the week of January 5. A formal apology will be enclosed with each VCA Members/subscribers magazine.

We are very sorry for the delay and plan to be back on track with the Spring issue. We appreciate your patience..."

P.S. I do not know why the VCA does not do a true annual dues... i.e. if you join in May... you would be a member from May to May. Seems like it should not be that hard to do.

It went poooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof! :D
Or maybe it was mailed to members of a Ram truck club since it'll probably feature the SRT Ram truck that's being raffled. :D

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

Well just catching up...how interesting that my post gets moved to a section no one looks at...wonder what that agenda is all about? Anyway, I agree...what about the WINTER issue? Going 3 for 4 sounds like someone owes me $25. Do only VCA members have to meet their obligations? The management of the VCA and DC need to explain to all of us members again about how important we are and how well we are treated....can't even get our quarterly mag.!!!! I don't even think there is a term for a publication that comes out only 3 times a year...how about the Viper Quarterly Minus One or the Dodge Different Quarterly? Different since it's a quarterly that only comes out 3 times and Dodge instead of Viper since we have to read about all their product promotions instead of our VIPERS! CORPORATE BIG WIGS THAT CAN'T MEET THEIR COMMITMENTS and don't worry about the little guys...the little guys...they will grin and bear it or even better the brown nosing wussies among them will bail us out by singing our praises...you can always depend on them. Well it's probably time for the VCA Propaganda Minister to make this post go poooooooooooooof!

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

Hey guys I just found out through a reliable source that the reason this whole thing began was because the advertising which funds the magazine which was provided by DC has been pulled and their backing has been seriuosly diminished..WHATS UP WITH THAT!

PS..Also I heard that both fall and winter issues are being shipped out almost similtaniously soon..

I don't care how they treat me,I'm not a member anymore, and I 'm still treated the same way.
As for the quarterly/trimesterly/barely magazine,I think that the VCA members should GET paid to read it since it's only a 100% self-serving,self-promoting rag.

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

Sorry guys at JRT for what I'm about to say... My views on the VQ have changed over time. I would probably have to agree that it has evolved into a Neon / Ram / blatant DC brochure with minimal "real" content. I look at the BMW club magazine, Roundel, as a model of what we should be doing. I'm sure that their circulation numbers probably allow them to do more than we can but there is a lot we could change. It would be nice to see more the Herb Helbig column type stuff. Why not several interviews with PVO, interviews with engineers, with purchasing, with design, how about more tech talk, maybe a continuing series outlining engineering changes on our cars, maybe interviews to find our what the "D" side of the house thinks of Viper. How about a comparison of PVO with AMG. What I think we need to do is to exploit the access to DC, but not at the cost of being their mouth piece. Roundel will routinely publish columns that actually criticize BMWs, VQ would never think of even remotely crossing that line. My $.02 is that I'd much rather see an independant, content laden, newsletter than I would another glossy brochure. Look at a magazine like Grass Roots Motorsports - 110% content, until recently not real expensive printing costs. Maybe those guys could do our magazine. We are paying $100 to be members of this club. Perhaps by using and advertising firm to do the club magazine we are getting exactly what we are paying for...

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

I always thought the Viper Magazine would be more interesting if it had more real content.

Anyway, I bought all the back issues of Viper Magazine, and many of the early issues had a LOT of technical content. I said to myself "Cool, now here's some good reading". So I started reading it, and as much as I hate to admit this- it bored me to tears! Go figure!

But even tedious technical stuff would be better punishment than having to see NASCAR cr*p, Neons, and the like. Or maybe a slap in the belly with a wet fish would be better. I dunno.

YOU MEAN VIPER OWNERS DON'T WANT TO READ ABOUT NASCAR????

GET RIGHT OUTTA TOWN!!!!

Thanks dodge for pulling the GTS-R out of ALMS!

How many winston cup titles have you won yet?

VM is BRUTAL. It reads like a bunch of tools sat down and wrote it in an afternoon. A committee of yes men spewing forth DC sackriding and it's sickening.

Oh well.

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

It almost seems like the Viper Magazine is patterned off of the Corvette magazine. But the Corvette magazine is a GM publication and sent out FREE to owners and potential owners (I received a free years worth (from GM) after buying each Viper). Now the Corvette mag is like a advertisement. And since it is free that does not seem too bad.

Now on the other hand we pay for the Viper magazine. We pay $55 (per the accounting post) per member to John Thompson for Viper HQ and the magazine. The magazine lists a subscription rate of $25 per year. That leaves $30 going for I don't know what. Now the $25 is more than $6 a copy. Considerably more than I pay for other magazines. With all the advertisements, both DC and other companies), you would think the magazine would almost pay for itself.

Regarding content how much if anything does the VCA have to say about what goes into the magazine? Is this a VCA magazine or a DC magazine (rhetorical question)? In the magazine it states that the magazine is published by JR Thompson for THE DODGE DIVISION OF DAIMLERCHRYSLER. No where does it state any connectivity to the VCA. I guess I wasn't aware of that until I just looked. I now have more questions than ever regarding the VCA involvement with JR Thompson and the VCA finances.

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

My 2 cents, although nobody asked... seems to me that whenever a magazine has to be approved by multiple divisions within a large multi-national company I would have expect that any edge is probably removed.

Kind of like how the VCA sees this site - caters to the lowest possible viewer so as to not offend anyone. Same with the VQ, keep it fluffy and you don't have to worry about offending anyone.

That said, I've met several of the folks who handle content for VQ and have to say these are some stand up guys and girls. I was glad to have them at our events and even years later they take my calls and shoot the breeze - gotta love that. As such, I dont believe that its the people, but the circumstances which make the magazine what it is.

The question is - can a Viper Magazine be successful without the contributions of the VCA to support it? I know a little about the magazine business and I can say most likely not (Borders still has some copies of the last issue in the racks). I still get Corvette magazines and havent owned a Vette since my new '01, which was nice, but is also largely a marketing tool.

Maybe if the people who work on the magazine didnt have their hands tied they could have alot of "fun"; but somehow I dont think that word in part of the DC/VCA relationship.

I think Borders has extra copies because the public is pretty smart -- they only want to spend their hard earned money on content, not self promotion! I've talked to a couple of the advertisers in Viper Magazine and they are really ticked off. They certainly wanted at least one timely issue before Christmas. Unfortunately now they may be pulling out of future issues -- eveyone gets hurt. Some serious questions need to be asked about the JR Thompson relationship, they're not doing the job.

I was told not to say anything, if I don't...well you know... have anything nice to say, but I couldn't help thinking he is right to say what was he just said.

Are we asking to much of from them? I'm not trying to be a A-hole, just seems they get a decent amount of money to put 4 magazines out a year and then require the presidents to have all the info for the regional blurb to them months in advance, but still they fail to complete their jobs?

I too agree that it is getting to the point where I just don't get excited about what's inside the new issues..... I know it's NOT going to be about the Viper Club or any good info on my car. I can get Dodge brochures for free at the local dealership.

I normally wouldn't say anything, but I have send several items (Viper related pictures and questions for Herb) to the magazine and years go by with no response. I guess they have all the info they need to put it together.

Just a side note: I did re-up my membership, so it must not bother me to much.

Didn't that guy Richard Petty drive a "Dodge" product at one time?

Been a VCA member since '98. I've decided to not renew my membership. Got the renewal notice today...funny that they managed to get it out on time since their asking for more money...and threw it in the trash. I refuse to belong to a club that favors the "inside gang", does not provide a financial accounting to it's members ( too much travel and entertainment $$$s spent on the "inside gang", fails to meet simple obligations like getting the VM out 4 times a year and censors most "non-brown nosing" comments about the VCA or DC.

I'm talking since Dodge's return to neckcar which was the reason Dodge pulled it's funding for Vipers in ALMS and cut off ties with Oreca. I could care less about what dodge did with nascar way back when.

Re: What happened to DEVILDOG\'S post regarding the VCA???

I paid and I can't even get my VCA number! Yes I know I have said this before, but why can't I get it? This is my first Dodge product (which I love) but the VCA is not much at communicating. Heck I don't know if I am in or out and I am beginning to care less either way. There are always cool Viper owners I can hang with locally even without the VCA. If I ever get my membership I will try it one year and see. Re the Mag, I have been buying corvette mags for years and some are good and others aren't, but I agree with the earlier post that you should be anxious to read what's in the next issue. If I get one I will let you know what I think. (If anyone cares)
