Kind of a strange request but one of the tube mounts on my carbon fiber airbox snapped loose this past week...it turns out that the outlet collars are just epoxied onto the box a glue of some sort.

What can I use to reattach it? Any suggestions or issues I should be aware of when "gluing" to carbon fiber? What about just using plain super glue? ;)

Thanks for any advice.

You can use cyanoacrylate (superglue) or epoxy.
Don't sand the carbon fiber!! Clean the two surfaces with alcohol (or a suitable cleaner compatible with the material you are gluing) to promote proper adhesion.

Cool - thanks!

Is cyanaocrylate a special super glue or just the "species" name of all superglue?

The instant part of super glues is cyanoacrylate, although they often mix in other ingredients to make them tougher. Plain cyanoacrylates are strong but brittle, not very good for bonds that flex.

If you're going to glue, I would recommend go ol' 5 minute epoxy from Devcon. Although it's half the strength of a cyanoacrylate, it is much tougher.

I'm curious, why not 'glass them together, with fiberglass or carbon fiber? That would be mucho strong.

Who made the box? What do they say?

If it were me, I'd use regular epoxy. Clean the area with lacquer thinner. Have some kind of clamping ready to hold it firmly in place till it kicks off and cures.

I believe any epoxy would be better than superglue. That's just my opinion and experience.

The IAC hose ****** came loose on my H m S airbox. I used some Loctite epoxy for plastic & glass. Stronger than before, no problems since.

Same thing here Dean - the IAC ******. I was kind of shocked to find that it was just epoxied on and not "fibered" in...ya know?

All fixed now.
