Buying a Viper, Did I get a good deal?

I bought a Viper on auction. It is a 2002 rt/10 red w/15k miles. It is in 10 out of 10 shape in and out and runs like a charm. I paid 49k for it. I can't seem to find anything comparable in the same year for that price. Seems other 2002 rt/10's seem to be about 10k more. I am closing the deal in 2 days. Just wanted some reasurance. Plus I am buying it from a out of state dealer so I will pay no taxes

Assuming it all checks out, you did very well!

Normally, you will be paying your taxes in your home state when you go to register/inspect vehicle etc. I doubt you will get away with not paying any taxes though!

Just curious, when you say "auction", do you mean Ebay or a dealer car type auction? Just wondering who else might have been bidding at that price. As others have said, if the car checks out, you got a very fair (for you) price. Lots of warranty left too!

the prices on all cars are cheap right now, the car market is on the floor.
i been checking ebay on all viper sales for the past two month and they are not meating the reserve by a long shot so who ever wants to move it bad enuf lets it go cheap
i herd from a friend his mechanic up in georgia bought a
2001 gts saphire blue 15k miles $46,000 out the door at a local dealer
if you shop around and wait for the right deal the good deals are out there, specialy when you are ready to buy

Bought my 1999 ACR for $40K in February from a private owner. It only had 12K miles on it and in perfect shape. However I would not sell it for less then $50K now.

Yes, I can get away with not paying the tax. Here in California of all places. It states when purchasing a vehicle out of state and taking delivery out of state, you will pay taxes once you register in California, unless (loop hole) the vehicle has not been back to the state within 90 days. So If I bought it January 1st in another state I can not drive it in California until aprox 1st of April. You would need to give a reason were the car was possibly. I bought mine in Florida. I took a 3 month road trip back

They may ask for gas receipts, but that is o.k. and easy to make happen (if you know what I mean). My parents did this on there 450,000.00 motorhome/bus and saved a ton. They had no problems. Just dont get a parking ticket in California in 3 months if you know what I mean.

That is a great deal, however, I would double check on the tax info. I thought that rule only applied to commercial & RV vehicles only. Nevertheless you got a great deal!

Make sure you have a viper tech/mechanic check everything out and Carfax it. (I know carfax doesn't get most things, but just a step in the process

In addition see if you can into the DC service network, dealers can check what work was done on the car at DC shops, usually this is very helpfull.

I went to my local dodge dealer when I was looking asked for the viper tech slipped him a few bucks, told him I was purchasing a used viper and asked him if there was any way to check out servide history, 5 minutes later we were in the system and knew everything I needed to know.

RE: Prices on Ebay.

The car I just bought was on Ebay. It was somewhat local so I was able to check it out and drive it prior to the auction ending. I was the high bidder but below his reserve. We worked out a price above my bid but still below his original reserve. I've had the car for all of 12 days now and am very happy thus far. When I look at it in the garage it looks like it was always supposed to be there. Now, if it would EVER stop frikin raining in Ohio I could actually drive it.

Florida is the easiest state to rebuild wrecks and keep a "clean" title. They have very few laws or fines to stop someone from doing it. That does not mean your cars has been wrecked, however it is always best to have the car inspected by a pro.
