The best time I could muster with my stock 2000 RT/10 (K&Ns only) was 12.2. I recently ran an 11.78 with my stock SRT (K&Ns only). The Gen III outperforms the previous generations by a wide margin. Aggressive braking with the RT/10 was very scary at times, even in a straight line, as the rear had a tendency to swing right. Braking with the SRT is phenomenal, and it may still hold the MT record for a production car.

The ragtop is a "huge" convenience over the removable roof of the RT/10, and I now have a glove box and center console to put stuff. I like the styling of the SRT every bit as much as the RT, and it gets just as much attention. For me, the thought of going back to the previous generation is unthinkable, but I'm glad many Gen I/II owners are still happy with their rides. When DC comes out with a 600HP hardtop, I'll be one of the first in line.

The SRT-10 is like a ugly girl with a great personality. She's not much to look at, but she really puts out!

the 500 cube V10 will take more power as is - the 625hp Carbon Concept SRT10 being one example - it could take a V10 Hemi head - that'd be a marketing winner and make even more power - they could even throw in a 40 valve OHV version - all the design work is available, it would be no more than an inch, maybe 1.5" wider and only a few lb heavier - and that would make anything Ford or GM have look so tame it'd be a joke.

As for cup holders - I'll have them thanks - what is it with you guys that you think it is cool to drop your drinks on the floor?

re design - it would take very little to transform the SRT10 foundation into a GTS sequel worthy of the name - and the SRT10 can look every bit as good as the RT/10. If DC simply removed the crease/ridge down each side it would look a lot rounder.... but there is nothing wrong with this....

I agree with Torque. A Viper V-10 Hemi would have all car enthusiasts creaming in their boxers, and it would be a relatively minor conversion for DC to pull. The resulting HP/TQ would annihilate anything else out there. And maybe DC will do something that Ford and Mercedes have done recently and a few others have done in the past - supercharge it from the factory. The GT40 and the new Mercedes that put down so much HP are both SC'd. Have DC slap one on at the factory, even at mild boost, and the game would be over.

I'd love a cupholder. Every drink I take with me in the car now comes in a screw-top bottle (try to avoid the 5th of Jim Beam or cheap wine cracks that comment invited). Might not seem like a big deal, but when you are going the 2 hour Miami -> Key west run in the summer, you NEED a drink.

And the SRT-10 styling, while not being to my taste, is salvageable. It's *almost* right. They just need to do... SOMETHING. I don't know what it is, but it's on the edge of being a really cool looking car. Just ain't there, yet. Hopefully the Coupe will address the styling issue.

I think the ugly girl analogy is a little over rated. The GTS is a beautiful car in it's own right but to call the SRT/10 Ugly is a stretch.

Also, I believe that it would have be tough for DC to make the SRT/10 as swoopy and voluptuous as the GTS. The flatter front end, lower roof line (relative to the body), and the squared off (corvette like back end) all were necessary to gain an aero advantage over the previous generation and the competition.

I agree with you there. I love the styling of the gen I/II RT/10s, but the removable hardtop is such a pain, and the soft-top is really bad.

Bottom line is that each generation has it's positives and negatives.

Gen I - Blows everyone away with it's beautiful styling and raw power. Driving one feels like being in a race car. Not everyone likes that and it's definately not a daily driver since there were no real windows and the soft top was poor design. Home Run!

Gen II - Unbelievable styling with improved handling and horsepower. Can be a daily driver. This is the best all around Viper in my opinion. Only "problem" for some is it's not an open air vehicle. Home Run, 2 RBI's!

Gen III - Fantastic performance and daily drivability although the styling really took a hit. Looks like a japanese design on steroids in my opinion. Triple base hit!

Gen 4 - This could be where DC really steps back up to the plate and smacks the ball out of the stadium. A world class performer, with a beautiful design that can be a daily driver, as long as it doesn't compromise on it's racing heritage. Package the SRT in a slightly restyled GTS or Comp Coupe design, bump up the hp to 650 and you have a Grand slam!!!

Well said, except they made open air Gen II cars as well (97-02 RT/10).

Noticed that someone asked the "official" weight of the GT. As published in the new Motor Trend - 3468lbs.

The article tested the Carrera GT, Ford GT, and Enzo. The Viper (SRT-10) was used as a refrence several times, which I think is a compliment considering they are testing cars that are AT LEAST twice the price and as much as eight times (!!!) the price, MSRP of course. Out the door prices, it would be more extreme. They were braggin on the Carrera's braking, then mentioned that it was the 2nd best performance from 100-0. 1st? SRT-10 by 2 feet. (Carrera 277 SRT 275) Second refrence was the SRT's 1/4 time, 11.8 @ 123.6. Ford GT was 11.2 @ 131.2.

PS, GT was "only" 200.1mph not 205mph.

PSS, all you owners are extremely lucky to own any of the Vipers, don't forget that. If you ever forget, just look at the faces of the people you pass. ;)
