Closed Hood?

Question: Has the hood of the SRT-10 been closed at every international auto show since its inception?

That is: Is this typical for the engine not to be viewable when the Viper is on display?

I know that there is speculation that there is no engine on the Viper on display, but I have heard no confirmation that this is true.

Good point. The pics from Dtroit give the impression there is no engine inside. Look at the gap between the front fenders and rears. Considerably higher. Maybe DC is listening and planning a surprise for GM?

Rob:

They have gone on record that the power train remains unchanged. I do not know what the impact would be if they changed that stance prior to the release of the coupe. But this issue of the front end appearing light (sans engine) is intriguing. Then again, it may be nothing more than just wanting to getting the coupe body on display.

I will find out tomorrow at the latest. For those that are not aware of it, there is a national VCA board meeting in Detroit, including a meeting with SRT on Friday. Rest assured that I (and several others) have made note of the comments posted here and elsewhere. I shall be delighted to be the squeaky wheel, starting with the mystery of the display Coupes. At the very least I will see if they can throw some cinder blocks in there to level the car out... ;)

I've seen my SRT-10 with the engine removed, and the front comes up so high that it looks ridiculous. It's not a subtle lift at all; it's immediately obvious that something is very, very wrong.

For what it's worth, my SRT-10 was the car on display at the Washington, DC auto show last year. I assure you that, at least in that case, an engine was indeed under the hood, although the hood did remain closed.

all those tests that the mags and that the auto shows are doing are all 2005 motors not the motor thats going to be released in the 2006 coupe, the real motor is still being considerd a "conecpt" and the coupe WILL be released with it 600HP

So is the coupe only available in Blue with white stripes? That seems pretty dumb in my opinion to only offer one color combination. Also, I dont think the car is going to come with 600HP, Dodge has already said it in all of the press. Think about it... the Z06 specs are out, everyone knows its going to perform, how would dogde NOT talking going to help them at all? If they had something big, we would know it.

Nazology...your do not know your viper history. The first run of GTSs in 1996 were all blue with white stripes. That is why all of the 2006 GTSs will be the same. It is not dumb but tradition. It would be interesting where Stugots is getting his information. The VCA board is meeting in Detroit this week and I have two friends there and I have heard nothing.

your exactly right on the tradition factor but let me ask you this what else happend in 1996 with the release of the GTS? so why would they follow 1 tradition and leave another out?? this is not where I got the info from but it does bring up an interesting point huh?

In response to Stugots comments above, obviously, the HP of the GTS went up to 450 on the GTS and the RT/10 got electric windows as well as the HP bump. Since I have had vipers since the beginning, hopefully I remember some of this stuff :D Bob

I heard that the new coupe will have a "factory paxton blower"

I have a paxton on my srt it fits like they made the viper just for the blower and not the other way around. Also if that happens and they want to be SAFE it can easily make 700 crank hp without braking a sweat and be totalllllllly safe with no issues

vd..

The IL VCA had our annual Detroit trip to tour ASC, Roush Racing(Builder of the Comp Coupe) and go to the Detroit Auto Show. The photos Chris Marshall posted earlier were from our lunch stop at ASC where we arranged to have one of the new SRT coupe mules (I think an SO status car) and the Chrysler ME 412 mule on display for everyone to touch, crawl under, and sit in. Today at the Detroit Auto Show our favorite Viper spokes model, Elizabeth, opened the hood of the SRT Coupe during her presentation. As far as I could tell it was the current production engine. If you get a chance stop by and say hello to Elizabeth. She been the Viper spokesmodel for at least the last 4 years. Oh yea, she's very Viper literate, classy, and very attractive.
