How many Vipers do you think have been destroyed beyond repair? I always see Vipers on the web that have been in very bad street & race accidents. I guess these cars are probably sold for parts.

Sadly there are quite a few, as a matter of fact I believe its the most commonly wrecked exotic.

its because of all the torque and idiots who cant handle it but choose to get behind the wheel anyway.

and of course the traction is alot worse if you don't buy tires from Olin Mott.

It's got to be alot. 1/3 may be a good estimate!

Hell, everyweek there is a couple fresh wrecks on Ebay!

It won't be too much longer and I will have the only GTS left!!!

its really sad however exactly like Jon said it makes ours alot more valuable, I think maybe this year I might get a smashed up snake and (with the Wizards help) redo it all custom, thats been something I have been dying to do for some time.

You guys really think it's up as high as 1/3? I was thinking 15% would be reasonable - but I think 1/3 is pretty high.

Too bad we couldn't get some national registration data....

I've heard (from my insurance agent) that Viper is the most commonly totalled exotic within the first three month of ownership. Anyone else heard this claim?

Definitely the highest in the first three days of ownership!

it would be nice to start a forum or official or unofficial count of Vipers left, similar to the link on this site of the numbers of RT10s/GTS per year with numbers per various options. How many GTS' like mine (86 were made) are still left. Like others have said, give it another 10 or 20 years and mine could be the only one left. A scoreboard would be cool with a countdown of various Vipers and their various option packages left.

Might be easier to keep a database of known totals (wrecks), by VIN number. You could then "assume" the remainder were still out there in some form, until known otherwise.

One of these days all the known wreck VINS will get entered into the IVR database. We have a field to indicate car status (VIN Database) Bonkers has them in a big Excel spreadsheet right now. We now have a programmer, so maybe we'll be able to get him to write a few scripts to upload the tons of VIN information gathered.

I would have to concure with that statement, because I had 2000 gts for less than 2 weeks and it was parked in our Smith's grocery store parking lot and I had a hit and run. thoes BASxxxds.

I think the Corvette is still the most commonly wrecked exotic (Sports car, w/e) This amount of crashes aint looking too good on Insurance is it?

I'd go out on a limb and say first three MILES! At least more so than any other exotic.

I don't think the vette is considered an exotic. Exotic by definition suggest it should be "rare". As nice as they are, I think GM makes more vettes per year than Dodge makes Vipers in 5-10 years. Might as well call a Mustang an exotic.

Guy I bought my car from first had a red 01 RT/10. Bought in on a Saturday. On the following Tuesday, took it back to the dealer because it had a "squeak" in the right front wheel. Viper tech lost it on the test drive and ran it into a bridge. 279 miles on the odo. Totaled.

Car showed up in Texas sometime later with a washed title. Somehow, the new owner tracked him down as the original owner after having suspicions that the car had been wrecked. He emailed the new owner pics of the wreck, same VIN #. Said the guy was sick to his stomach after receiving them. I guess so!!! Bad people out there.

Check this one out. Car is supposedly on it lid, but the suspension is in full droop. Looks like a Photoshop job to me.
