My new look - \"the anti-bling.\" I think you\'ll either love it or hate it.

Finally figured out my hosting late last night. Have to go to work, but here is one shot that gives a good repesentation of my car's new look. Painted the gas cap and a set of stock 18" wheels siver to match the car. I also did the intake and valve covers in wrinkle grey. Except for the corners of the aluminum radiator and the throttle bodies there is no chrome of polished aluminum on the car. Just silver, grey and black.

I ran out of sun so the engine shot did not turn out so well. Later I'll post a wider shot of the whole car.

Love it. De-chromed looks damn good on your color car. On a darker car, like mine, that's another story. Did you powder coat the wheels or just paint them?

The reason I did the wheels this way was because I do not like shiny wheels on fast cars, particularly fast cars in light colors. I like the stock polished look on black, saphire, greys and even red, but on my silver I just do not like the polished wheels. Plus, I am not real big on three-piece wheels (don't forget my HRE 543 19s are for sale) and like the more euro-look of a one-piece wheel with no lip. My powder coater does not like to coat casting as there are almost always little bubbles somewhere from gas cooking out of the casting, plus it is really hard to get a uniform distribution of the metallic flake over a larger area with powder so they are painted with a catalyzed wet paint, as is the gas cap.

I agree with the "unique" appeal. I think that most of us are looking for something that is not the corvette filling up on the next pump.

Put an update after a few months on how the wheels hold up and how much brake dust they show.

That does it! I am so powdercoating my valve covers and intake that color. B-E-A-utiful! Not the wheels though. I really like those 543's. I think those are my favorite HRE wheels.

Overall: Good looking car. :2tu:

The motor looks great! I also don't care much for the wheels and gas cap.

I called my coater and they tell me my Storm Grey Wrinkle powder came from Chempoint fka Roman-Hawes. I was running out of daylight and had to flash that pic so it is a bit darker than in the pic. How about this, you sell those hard to get BBS/ACR wheels and buy my HREs!

Just to let everyone know, the gas cap had major clear coat issues (getting really milky aroud the edges) and I bought a set of used wheels that were in good shape but had clear coat issues so I did not ruin perfecty good pieces to paint them silver. They all needed refinishing anyway. BTW, you cannot buy the gasket that goes between the body and the decorative gas cap by itself. I used a piece of sheet rubber and cut out my own.

I have stock brake pads and have buried the new wheels in dust once so far. They start to look like they are a darker gunmetal grey color but since I put two coats of wax on them before install it wipes right off.

I like the whole package on the silver car. Definitely gives it a purposeful look. Speed!

BTW, I don't think those smooth tubes are going anywhere. :D

You forgot the lug nuts and the valve cap. I like the engine. Not sure about the wheels though. Maybe it looks better in person.

The more I look at the car, the more I like the look (fits me), and I sure cannot complain about the Kumhos.
