What\'s your thoughts on garage queens?

It makes me sad to see ANY car become a garage queen. I don't care if it's a Ferrari Daytona or a 05 Viper cars are meant to be driven. It's just sad to me to see a great car never enjoyed.

In my opinion you should have as much fun as possible with your car. Take it to the track from time to time; go on cruises, car shows, etc. To me it is just a no brainier drive the car and you will have fun.

And fun is what it's all about. I would rather have the most fun with my car than have the fastest most beautiful car ever.

Just my honest opinion what's yours?

I agree. Why have spend so much on a great car and then just leave it sit. How sad.

I drive all my cars and always have. If someone else wants a garage queen fine with me. If someone wants to buy a new Viper and use it for target practice, fine with me also. To each his own.

I take care of it like a garage queen, but use it all year round. Even in the winter I drive it, as long as the roads are dry. I don't sweat the sand and salt here in the northeast, when I come home I wash it and get it all off. If the sills and wheel wells get a little sand blasted, I have them repainted at my local body shop and they look better than new. But I keep it well waxed and cleaned at all times. I refuse to NOT drive it for 4 months of the year.

i disagree....to me its just as fun having it...i dont feel driving it all the time and beating up on it all the time equals "fun".i mean its not the only way to have fun.

For me i love knowing i have it, and its perfect, and has low miles (12K).

I like taking it out once in awhile...thats what i have always done with my cars. for me that is all i need...

Re: What\'s your thoughts on garage queens?

I was with you 100% , as both of my prior Snakes were on the track as much as the street. Viper Days was an addiction, and I couldn't wait till the next event. Getting into SCCA Roadracing heavily, I sold the GTS and just lusted after all my friends Vipers. A chance meeting with a guy who prepped my racecar, led me to find out about a 96 GTS with 151 miles. That car now sits in my garage, and though I have cajoled everyone about the importance of driving the venomous beast, this baby resides in a place of honor and is my ultimate "Garage Queen!" A glass of Cabernet, and stolen glance or light polishing seems to be all I need to be complete. Of course it does help that Paul Greaser occasionally lets me drive his 96 GT1 RaceSnake. What I have finally discovered is that we all have differing views about our love affair, but being in love is what is important.

Any dweeb who has the money can buy a supercar, and it won't hurt his sex life if he keeps a Viper in the garage while he tools around in a self driving SUV.

Shelby has this one right. I drive all of my cars, but I have no problem with those who choose not to. There are many ways to enjoy a car and those who pay are the ones who get to say. If you want to flog it or fluff it more power to you.

I bought a few of mine for investment purposes and yes they are garage queens. The TT Viper goes racing and gets used as it should. I also drive the Turbo Porsche.

My 900 mile GNX and Turbo T/A will go up in value much more than driven cars. That's the reason I bought them.

The 79 Bandit T/A gets used occasionally and will be given to my son.

My 2 cents...

I need garage queens... Have 80,000 miles on my '94 and will be looking for a nice Gen 2 in a few years.

I drive mine as much as I can work / weather permiting. I also enjoy polishing / waxing it almost as much as driving.

Each to there own.

I think people should not be so concerned about what others do with their vehicles. :2tu: :2tu:

Re: What\'s your thoughts on garage queens?

its all about perception of the dollar... If I were rich.. I'm talking Bill Gates rich.. I would have a fleet of garage queens.

But since I am here in the real world, I will drive my car as much as possible. I won't drive it in the snow, will try to avoid rain, will drive it as much as possible during thoise beautiful summer days. Oh and will polish the hell out of it. I didn't save and save to look and clean. To each there own though. Either way everyone should have fun with what they bought and what they love.

We are all individuals with the ability to self-direct our lives. People find different ways to stumble through the maze of life in search of happiness and if a car in the garage does it for you, then do it. Who am I to judge?

People not driving the car that they pay for.

These are the things that keep me awake at night.

Come on, who gives a damn what someone else does with their own ride. How can this possibly give anyone a moment of angst?

I drive my GTS, but maintain it to always look better than new. If there's a chance of rain...it stays home. I do enjoy driving it, but also raelly like keeping it as perfect as I can.

That said, I have restored many older Mopars, the latest one (a keeper) was my Grandmother's and Mother's, a '72 Plymouth. Since a 100 point resto..it is not driven. Very short distances to keep everything in order...but trailed almost always to avoid damage on the road. I enjoy the old machine, and I enjoyed performing the restoration, but with parts availability and cost the way they are...it is staying safe in the trailer.

I couldnt agree more, I mean things are what they are and I guess it's an alright topic to kick around. But from that perspective Hockey is right living in this fallen world, there's way to many things to be done to worry about weather or not someone drives their car. On the other hand my honest and Chrsitian description is if you have it now.. Drive it! For before the final set up of Jesus rein on earth... ALL present elements and material are burned up with ferverent heat... bye bye material world, Hello eternal kingdom :D nice trade off, just think of it as "trading" your civic for a Heffner or Paolo TT Viper. :2tu:

I would not mind having a low serial number 1992 in my garage as a garage queen....

I would still drive the heck off my 1993!

Re: What\'s your thoughts on garage queens?

I get huge enjoyment out of just "having it". I do like to drive it when the weather is "perfect" like a Fall day in the 60 degree range with practically no humidity. If I had two or three vipers, I would drive one of them a lot more often. My main drivers would be a M5 or Aston Martin. Actually the more I think about it I definately need at least 4-6 vehicles, but would be more comfortable with a dozen or so, just to cover all occasions and needs...

I'd like to think of it like drinking...

Some guys like to do beer bongs and chug,
Some guys like the booze neat w/cigars,
Some guys like to sip the fine wines,

In the end everyone is getting drunk! :2tu:

Re: What\'s your thoughts on garage queens?

30,000 miles on my 2000 ACR. I wish I could have put many more. I bought a nice enclosed trailer to tow to VOI Dallas. Big mistake.Somewhere in Arkansaw a caravan of Vipers passed at probably 100 MPH. God I wished i had driven my car.{sold the trailer] I will be driving to Road Atlanta this month and Mopar Nationals in August and any where else I can make up an excuse to go . Love it.

I have always said that an exceptionally low mile car is a point of depreciation for me. Money not being the issue, given the choice of Joe's 104k 1994 RT and Wright's 000094-Mile 1994 RT I'd chose Joe's anyday of the week. I least I know his works.

After purchasing a Viper...it's easy to make every other vehicle I own a garage queen. Every chance I get, I take the Viper out. It's good for the soul! :2tu:
