Sequential Shifter for Vipers

There are couple companies making and importing sequential shifters for turbo imports like EVO, Supra and Impreza. These sequential shifters work with the stock transmission and require clutch to be pressed to change gears. However, you get perfect shift times every time and you never miss a gear. And they are in the $500-$1,000 range unlike $15k to $20k sequential transmissions.

Is there any company out there that manufactures or imports similar sequential shifters for Viper T56?
Would any vendor be interested in modifying the imported sequential shifters to make them work with the Viper T56?

Insomniac;

This is a GREAT TOPIC!

A "positive shift every time" would interest me very much indeed. I checked out the UK link (thank you) that someone here posted, and it is a link to Quaife parts for Dodge cars in the UK. They show the items available for the Viper.

I know about the Quaife diff, but I knew of nothing for a Viper that would give us the "snick" shifts like you saw on the imports in "Fast and furious". I just figured that because of the Viper torque and Horsepower, that maybe those sequential shifters couldn't stand up to the V-10.

Oh, I did notice on that link that they pictured straight-cut (and helical?) gears.

Anybody here who can chime in and tell us what it feels like to shift with that set-up? is it heaven, or is it tough to deal with on a daily basis? I have read that straight-cut gears are quite NOISY. If this is true, then it makes sense why they are only used in strictly "track" cars only.

Boy, would I enjoy being able to nail perfect, positive shifts every time! I have experienced the "tied to a tree" experience of shifting spiritedly from 4th to 5th and going into 3rd (wake-up time!) and it's not fun at that speed. Luckily, I immediately pushed the clutch to the floor and corrected my car (as the rear-end started doing the wild thing).

By all means folks, if you have experience with this "sequential shifter" set-up please do tell us!

It's topic's like this that make this site so worthwhile and invaluable to us Viper enthusiasts.

Thanks!

Checked the link. What Quaife has done is a complete sequential transmission and I'm not sure if they have one that will fit the SRT-10 yet. £6,250 for the sequential transmission + £550 for the Quaife bellhousing + £360 gear indicator... = £7,160 That's some cash.

I was thinking for those who don't want to go the whole sequential transmission route, just a sequential shifter modified to work with the T56 would be a cost efficient solution. $500-$800 probably for the shifter and you get to shift lightning fast.

I remember seeing in one of the forums (not VCA forum) a sequential shifter modified to work with the T56. I'll see if I can find it.

The Quaife unit has already been made I have seen it at a Motorsport Show and it was supplied for the Oreca cars I believe for Le Mans etc.

As I understand it its a lot more noisey than a standard box. I also tested a Viper with a blueprinted box and that was unbelievable for a sensible solution for the road.

We have a good guy in the Uk who rebuilt **** box with different ratio's

So the Quaife 6 Speed Sequential transmission for the SRT-10 is already out. How much RWTQ and RWHP can this transmission handle?

What do you mean when you said "I also tested a Viper with a blueprinted box and that was unbelievable for a sensible solution for the road". Was that a sequential transmission too?

What ever happended to the Zero Shift guys? their setup only required the clutch to get the car rolling. After that, all shifts were clutchless.

This one shows how the system works.

If you could make one of these sequential shifters work with Gen 3 vipers and perfect it, you'll be walking on water. We'll be all over these like rats on cheese.

Well we have worked on this issue with Holinger out of Australia and they do have a box that is at Heffner's right now. However this box is for racing and would be noisy and not a gentle unit to use. It can sustain high horsepower (1000hp) without any problem. We had hoped to do a synchronized unit which would be as smooth as the stock units are now. This r/d is about 1/2 to 3/4 done but has stopped until there is genuine interest (money down). They make great boxes but are expensive $17,000. These units would also handle the very high HP some of the twin turbo cars are putting out. Anyway this is some info if others would like to get more I can put you in contact with the guys in charge at Holinger.

$17,000 for a sequential gerbox. And probably it's a race sequential gearbox with straight cut gears. It will be pretty noisy and rough for road use.
If I ever decide to go with a complete sequential gearbox, I'll rather go with the Quaife Gen III sequential gearbox with helical gears instead of straight cut gears. http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/download/19.pdf
Still that's £6,250 for the sequential transmission + £550 for the Quaife bellhousing + £360 gear indicator... = £7,160

I am more interested in a $600-$1,000 cheat sequential shifter that gets installed on the viper T56. I can press & release the clutch pretty fast.

I am very interested in your sequential shifter for GEN III vipers. Make it look good, fit good, work good & fast and have a LED display for the gears and you have a winner.

Put me on the list for the first one.
