How many of you guys make less than $ 50,000.00 a year ?

I make less than 45k a year....and have 2 vipers and a large house and lots of stuff. I think it is because my wife makes over $400k a year...

she have a younger sister? lol

Im 22 right out of college, and make a little over 50,000... I just bought my first viper... paid little over 30,000 for a near mint condition Gen I. I also have a 1,000$ rent. and a truck payment as well to shell out every month. I am squeezing by, but I am not saving much at all. I also had 12,000$ saved up to put down on the viper from working during college. I guess its probably not the smartest thing to do at my age, because i have no savings and dont make enough to put any away either. But i drive a VIPER!. Why not bust my ass now and have one, then save for the next 5 years and then buy one? If you can get one, and you can still save a little money after all your bills a month.. i say DO IT. Nothing like pullin up next to someone in a vette in my viper and they realize im only 22.

Like Chuck said in the second reply on this post "If the man upstairs calls your ticket do you wanna leave this world with a Viper or a bank account." If you want a Viper buy one now ! Life is too short, get out and enjoy it now !! You never know how long you're going to be around. For a person with a modest income I have enjoyed many fine things in this life. If I see something I want I find a way to get it. I love to see the look on peoples faces when they come over to my modest house and I open up the door to my modest garage and they see a sparkling red Dodge Viper sitting in it. Its priceless !!

Believe me, if i could conceivably afford one right now, I'd have it. But there is simply no way right now. But I figure three years from now, I should be able to do it without any trouble.

In 3 years from now who knows where the hell any of us will be and what kind of situations we'll be in. Instead of figuring out ways your going to be able to get a Viper in three years channel all that energy and thinking into figuring out how you can get one now ! Just think you could be crusing around in your own Viper shortly ! Go for it, life's too short !!

I'm in the military with a wife a 2 kids. I got a great deal on my Viper, and I can work on it myself. The Dodge place wants $90.00 for an oil change that I can do myself for much less. If you drive the car like a normal person, and not like it's a race every time you get in it, tires last a long time. My wife and I pay cash for just about everything, and rarely carry a balance on the credit cards. I can afford a Viper because I'm not up to my ears in debt. Modifications are another story, I have to save a while and get the bast bang for the buck.

Where are you stationed? I'm in the Army and doing a little better than $50K. Pilots pffffft, what are you going to do?!

I'm at Little Rock Air Plane Patch for the next 2 weeks, then off to "Lost Wages" (Las Vegas). I was a Carpenter/welder/mason, but my career field was 135% manned so I was cross trained into Aircrew Egress (ejection seats).

I make just over 50K a year. I own my own Viper and am paying for a house (you NEED a garage!!) I know how it feel to scratch and save and work work work.

I just got done puting a new patio on my house, took me almost 3 years of digging and placing the walls and pavers, a friend asks me "Why don't you just hire someone else to do it, you can afford a Viper" ... my response ... "I do it so I can own a Viper"

I agree with Andrew. Live now and pay later. Lifes too short. When I die, Ill bring my debt down with me. In the mean time. Ill enjoy my Viper.

The problem with making more money, is more people have their hands out looking for donations. Since I started making some cash (I make low 6 figures, not ELEVENTY BILLION DOLLARS or anything), I have had to buy my sister a car, and a bunch of other stuff. My mother is disabled, so I have to spend money non-stop on her. I've spent many thousands on crap for her. It's a pain. If it wasn't for them, I'd have a nicer house and more cars.

But then again, family is more important to me than anything I could drive.

Way to make sure your Mom is taken care of good job! She cared for you when you were at your most vulnerable state possible an infant. :2tu:

Like ViperJon said it all depends where you live.50K on most of Long Island is almost poverty level. I am fortunate enough to be well into 6 figures,but you get murdered with all the taxes.{12,500} in property taxes alone. My brother lives in Orlando and lives almost as well on half my salary!{but he does not have a Viper}.If it wasn't fo my kids I would have checked out of New York a long time ago. The one cool thing about N.Y. is that my job makes the Viper payments. I don't think I could have negotiated this deal in too many other States.

Makes it all worthwhile if you work and can help out the people who helped you. My sister just started college, so I gave her my PT Cruiser to drive home on the weekends. That was her graduation gift. I'm proud of her, because she has a pretty bad speech impediment, but still stays positive and gets straight A's.

I've been with the company for almost 17 years,have open properties for them and i am their primary rain maker so I bluffed and they bought it! It really is a wonderful country.

Also depends where you live. Here on Long Island we have very high taxes and utility costs. I doubt there is anyone that owns a Viper here that makes under 50K a year and owns a home, there is just no way to stretch it that far.

you can say that again with taxes approaching 20G's on my house , why do I live here again ?

I am IMPRESSED you stay focused and have your priorities straight! Keep the viper as long as you can-life is SHORT.

I make well over $100K as a single girl, so I can handle the viper ok, I can't imagine making much less and taking on the pmts.

I bought my Viper in 97, paid it off in 2000, quit my job in 2003 and paid off my house in 2005. The wife still works. Now I'm debt free but I think I need a job to maintain the standard of living. No, I didn't have it easy when I quit my job. But I was disciplined in my expenses and monitored my cash flow constantly.

Being debt-free is probably the most liberating experience.

I was driving an NSX during residency while making 37K per year. My rent was 350/ month and I was so busy... I didn't have time to spend money on anything else LOL!

It burns me to hear how many guys get screwed by the courts and divorce lawyers.Most guys will take care of their kids in a responsible way, but all the other crap they make you pay for is total BS. Although my wife is pretty cool and i do pretty much what i want, she has threatened to bash the crap out of my Viper with a bat and that would hurt more than any alimony payment.

Well this thread has definatly inspired me. Shows me you dont have to be "rich" to get one. I had no idea you could manage to get one making that little a year.

One question for the military guys though is how does the salary thing work for that? Do you guys get payed pretty well?

It's not how much you make, but how much you keep. A single guy making $50k who has good money management skills might be enjoying life and keeping more than a guy/gal making $100k and spending friviously.

After making shy of $200k, I feel like there is never enough cash. Family, payroll taxes, gas tax, property taxes, and sales taxes. There is always something to buy, fix, or a worthy cause to donate too! Six figures is not what it used to be!

If you are making less than 50K and have children and a mortgage, don't even think about a Viper at this stage of your life.

I hear you on the property taxes, payroll taxes, and sales taxes. Man those do kill ya.. For me, buying my viper was ok and everything.But modding it, man it never ends, and thats whats made me REALLY spend ! Its all about having self control. But man, temptation is sometimes toooo hard to control

Well, look at it this way...what would make you sleep better at night? Having not one, but TWO Vipers, or knowing that you helped out your mother and sister? To me, that is a no-brainer. When I told my sister that I was giving her my car, that was more of a thrill to me than anything associated with owning a Viper. I just felt good, you know?
