Hello

Since I would like to change the rear exhaust and cat on my 1995, without adding a new Header, some questions come up:

If I change to 3", would i gain or loose power and torque? I think this is a exhaust gas velocity question..
Is it more wise to stay with the original diameter all the way back, change the Cat to high flow and delete the side and rear muffler?

Any experience and figures?

Thanks in advance for your help

Little if any HP gain going to 3" but you get a throatier sound.

Rear muffler delete will give you 8-12hp and a nice sound.
High flow cats a little more hp and less side sill heat and little more sound.
Resonator is no factor in HP.

I assume you have annual inspections, otherwise there is no reason to keep the stock cats on a '95. If not, get rid of the cats and keep the mufflers (or upgrade them).

If you are keeping the stock exhaust manifold, you want to stay with the original 2 1/2 inch diameter.

Yes, we have every two years inspection. In my opinion concerning emission it would be OK to have high flow cats, I do not want to remove the cats because if they catch me I get a big fee.
I do go with Corsa cat back and Random tech high flow cat, hope this will fit without modifications. Maybe a Header later....

Thanks all for your information.

Does your car have the EURO-Exhaust with dual rear mufflers?

I replaced the EURO-system in my 1997 GTS with a Borla Cat-Back. Adding K&N Filters brought atotal powergain of more than 60 Horsepower and 20Nm... torque/hp curves became more linear.

You can go for Highflow Cats, as long Emissionvalues do not exceed the values in your Abgaswartungsdokument (is there an english Word for it? ;) ) at idle and 2500rpm.

Police, Cardealer and MFK can only check your emissions at Idle and 2500rpm without engine load... so no problem.

Viperama,
Is your car very loud? I mean for Switzerland. I didn't know high flow cats would pass emission test here.
I would like to put high flow cats to let the car "breath" better, but I'm afraid it's going to be very loud ('96 RT only have one rear muffler).

Do you remove your Borla when you have to pass MFK?
My car has a "Typenschen X" but I don't know what's this allows me to do or not. Do you know it?
Thanks

Viperama - Yes, think I do have a EURO Exhaust with dual rear mufflers and two side mufflers too. As soon I changed all my exhaust with High Flow Random techs and Corsa catback I will redo the emission testing and will post. Where do you Dyno your Viper?

JiPi - As I know with "Typenschein X" all the emission an noise is written in your document. I do not think any number or type of exhaust is written in there. So if you are changing exhaust keep an eye on the noise.... and emission of course...

Cheers

Yes Beno, you are right, the values of noise and emissions are written in my documents but nothing about the type of exhaust. So does it mean I can put whatever exhaust and cat I want as long as I don’t exceed these values? They usually ask a certificate for every single thing.
I’m really curious about the result of your future exhaust setup.
Thanks

Maybe we see us at a "Höck" from the VCAS or the Year end meeting or whatever..but foirst I need some time to change everything....

Sure I won't tell the MFK guys where to look. Nothing is written about how many muffler I have stock.
Hope we see eachother soon.

@ the two other swiss ;-)

I dynoed my car at Sportec in Höri.

My both cats were clogged from overheating so i replaced them with straight pipes... it was to loud, even for my taste.
So after the dyno i replaced the pipes with the cheapest 2 1/2 mufflers i found at summitracing... 20 bucks each.
Now it is more or less ok... but still louder than anything.

I drive with U-licenseplates only, which is helpfull with more than 100dB. ;-)

Try to get a copy of the 1320a Form from the Strassenverkehrsamt which took examination of your car.
Usually you find there some more infos about what they filed about your car... especially when you have a Typenschein X.

I installed Roe's 3 inch high flow cats and 3 inch muflers on my '95 RT/10. Still have the stock manifolds, but chose the 3" system just in case I decided to upgrade to headers in the future. I also purchased 3" Vortex cones from Summit and Tig welded them into the turn downs before reinstalling them. This knocked out the annoying popping when decellerating. Sounds awesome. BTW, just had it inspected with the sniff test, and the mechanic was amazed how clean the emmisions were. Big improvement to the sound, performace and heat buildup inside and under the side sills.
