I picked up some used belanger headers for my 93 viper, and am in need of header gaskets and bolts.

I emailed partsrack saying I purchased some belanger headers and am in need of the gaskets and bolts.

They respond "Sorry, NO thanks."

No thanks? I responded "No thanks? does this mean you dont carry the accessories?"

They respond

"They are FREE when you buy them from us."

So basically because they assumed I purchased the headers new and not from them, they were offering no help in purchasing the accessories.

Either way i felt the responses were rude and not helpful at all. The headers I believe WERE purchased from them anyways 2 years ago by the previous owner of the headers.

If the don't carry the accessories thats one thing, but you dont have to be rude about it because I didn't make the purchase new from them.

lol, Thats Jon B at his finest... Its why I no longer buy anything from him. Of course a bunch of others swear by him, so he has a hit or miss (love/hate) relationship with most viper owners.

Yep, I had a similar experiance a few years ago, thus i've never bothered again.

It seems as though most everyone on this site thinks that they are god when it comes to needing viper parts.

Guys: Get a grip (and some thicker skin) It sounds like a miscommunication at worst. I have been dealing with Jon in one form or another for 10 years through 3 Vipers, and never had a problem. He has saved folks on this board for many years from buying dumb things for their cars . The one time I did not like something, he took it back without questions. He does not have 50 people working for him, but he knows these cars and will work with you, if you give it a chance.

I would go to Chuck Tator, 914-763-3136. I am one of Chucks' biggest advocates. He is friendly, courteous and gives a discount to VCA members. He'll probably tell you to use the stock exhaust maifold gasket, because they work just as well. Standard 5/16 header bolts can be had at any speed shop. :2tu:

The guy is a waste of time , use a vendor , that is not so rude. I have tried 3 times and all 3 times was turned off by his attitude.

I agree, that is why I won't purchase anything from him (Partsrack). I know a lot of people are very pleased with his service. But there are so many other vendors that are willing to help you out on the phone or what ever, more interested in taking care of the customer no matter the $ amount spent.

I agree try Chuck Tator 914-763-3136.

Good Luck<

Between the three people that posted on here, I think there's an issue with the customer service. He may be awesome and knowledgable for certain people...but doesn't mean his customer service skill is up there.

Doesn't matter, Roe and his people will help anyone at any time.

As far as Jon goes? Well he speaks for himself, what can I say.

And I thought he just didn't like me.

Same scenario. Rude and uneasy to talk to on the phone. Parts did NOT arrive as described but he did give me a full refund. I will use Jon only as a last resort.

This is all too bad because I think Jon is extremely knowledgeable about our cars and really wants to help Viper owners. Perhaps he just needs to hire one more person, to take some of the pressure of off himself, so he can spend the time with customers that they expect.

Just my $0.02.

I hate to say it, but that was my experience as well, so I bought my stuff at Roe, and I was very pleased dealing with them.

I would probably try Partsrack again down the road when I need something, as sometimes folks are just having a bad day, so you never know.

BTW -GotAViper you can get these bolts at any hardware store, or OSH, Home Depot, etc. Just make sure you get the hardened bolts, and you can use the stock washers, their great washers. Also as for the gaskets, the stock Viper exhaust manifold gaskets are your best bet (Call Tators for that) and the flange gaskets are available at any Napa Auto parts or such (they have a book you can look through to match up the gasket, but it's a universal size).

I ordered my bolts from mt DC Dealer. They don't appear to be just ordinary bolts. They look like some type of non corosive alloy. Aluminum heads??? I don't know about regular steel bolts. I sure wouldn't want one to seize. I could be wrong.

Hardened steel bolts with a little anti-sieze would be fine.

I'm not sure what the bolts that come with the Belangers look like as mine were take offs, and didn't come w/bolts either.

I do like them now that there on, at WOT the car sounds like a Le Mans race car now :)

Re: NO SOUP FOR YOU!! GO AWAY - COME BACK NEXT MONTH!

I had to get the same parts from John, and I got the same story when I asked. I reminded him how much stuff I bought through him, and he sold me the bolts and gaskets. He has a somewhat abrasive personality, but he does know his [******], his prices are usually great, and he will take care of you when you do business with him. Give him another shot, and explain the situation, and I bet he'll help you out.

Why reward Partsrack, when other venders go out of their way.
He got me too with the personality. With that said he is honest and knowledgeable unlike Elite.

If you want someone to rub your belly....go somewhere else. Jon has always done me right. I have no need to feel warm and fuzzy after placing a parts order. Jon also supports quite a few Viper events...even local ones on my end of the country.

GotAViper......I do see your point. "Maybe" if you had said
"I purchased some belanger headers that were bought new from you and am in need of the gaskets and bolts"

Maybe you shouldn't have to do that to get service, maybe that would not have worked ??? I do see how it would be a pain to do an order for a profit of a few bucks on a product that was originally bought somewhere else. Yes...it's a good way to gain or lose a potential "new" purchaser.

Agree, Tony. If you need someone to hold your hand, go back to the Corvette Forum. Jon knows these cars as well as anyone, and his prices are usually very competitive. He also supports Vipers, Viperdays, everything Viper as much as anyone around!

Kudos to the Parts ****!!

Re: NO SOUP FOR YOU!! GO AWAY - COME BACK NEXT MONTH!

Bought my hi-flo cats from him.
Yes, a little short, BUT I knew that going in. Actually, had to call him back as he was on the phone across the pond. He had what I wanted, good price and did give me advice, albeit hurried.
I wonder how many B.S. calls he gets a day? ?
Bottom line, I got what I wanted, for a good price.

Re: NO SOUP FOR YOU!! GO AWAY - COME BACK NEXT MONTH!

I have no problem with Partsrack and will go out of my way to give Jon my business. His prices have been better/best on EVERTHING I have purchased from him, better than any other place I have called/shopped on the following.

Teamtech harnesses
K & N filter and intake
Autoform rollbar
Corsa track
Full set of Pilot sport tires
Extra PCM(engine controller)

He has been nothing but a gentleman to deal with! I know he is a smaller operation and wears many hats reception, shipping, technical support, and customer service and probably a few more. Yes at times he can/will be short on the phone, but has always returned my calls and given me as much time as necessary on the phone(some calls exceeding 30 minutes or more). I am sorry if you had a less than great experience, but there is hardly if any bigger or more enthusiastic "VIPER GUY" out there. He is a wealth of knowledge on these cars and tries to sell only proven products to his customers. I will and have told many other viper owners to call Partsrack when in need of simple or difficult to find viper parts.

THE PARTS ****....I love it. NOBODY knows more about Vipers or has contributed more to the Viper family then Jon, well, Maurice Liang too. There are three places that I know of that can handle hard to figure out Viper parts questions and get the job done ACCURATELY and without any additional Viper tax. Jon, Chuck Tator and Woodhouse. One last comment about Jon, I have run the Christmas party in Virginia/Maryland for 4 years. Last year I thought of throwing up a post in the forums here to make sure everyone was aware of it, I included my phone and Email. The FIRST EMail I got was from Jon, and the only thing I've ever ordered from him is the front clip license plate thingee.
The Email said simply....Parts Rack would very much like to contribute to your VCA event with gift certificates in the amount of... and the total was somewhere around $400-500. He may be the "Parts ****", but he's OUR "Parts ****"

There are two sides...... Please suffice to say that we make our entire living in the VIPER COMMUNITY only, sponsoring, giving back, and TRYING to do right by 98% of our callers. We have not built this business by being rude...we do get frazzled on MONDAYS (like today) and can be short with some known time-wasters. But we reserve the right to withold service from time-wasters, and give it to our valued customers.

1) I quoted this guy tires, wheels, headers, and more earlier....he buys elsewhere and wants me to service that sale. I actually told the Emailer that if the used headers were indeed sold by PartsRack originally as he claimed, the gaskets could be FREE from us! (He did not reply..the offer is open)

2) When callers ask for advise and quotes multiple times and buy NOTHING...we reserve the right to stop wasting our time away from our true, valued customers, some of whom kindly chimed in above. (I deeply appreciate that.)

3) Anyone who does not have the guts to put their true name in their profile should not earn your belief that they are even legit 'customers'. Shills? Bashing for self-entertainment? (gotaviper is known, thanks.)

4) FACT: One 'constant complainer' above drizzled crocodile tears all over me while I wrote and re-wrote his elaborate (and free) "diminished value" appraisal to yield him THOU$AND$ vs his insurance. His last $350 order he complimented the $50 discount I volunteered, that he did not even ask for. Now he is Anti-JonB due to some disagreement. I eventually joined a short list of vendors who don't want or need his unreasonable business anyway.

5) I have little patience for NON-CUSTOMERS needing free advice so they can be better informed to buy on eBay-of-fencing-operations. We even invite and DO help our customers and newbees with LOTS of tech support...but not Repeat freeloaders.

6) We appreciate your BUSINESS. We share your Viper passion. We are ALWAYS an advocate for our customers with the manufacturers. We honestly solve the rare manufacturer-supplier problems that occur. But we wont kiss backsides, and we sometimes slowly apply a "fairness" test to ~5% of callers / mailers who repeatedly pick our brains for info and seldom if ever become customers. When the scale tips to one side, NO SOUP FOR YOU is a fair, logical response.

7) But the door is open. Example: I TRULY LIKE CHUCK B (above)and I hope one day he and I can bury his hatchet. I like Chuck's humor and musings, and I enjoyed doing business w/ him. I have no idea what percieved rudeness cost me his patronage a couple years ago. (Because HE can withold business too!) I hope I CAN still help him one day and return to his good graces. Til then, NO SOUP FOR ME.

Respectfully, JonB

I have to commend Jon on getting me some hard to get viper items. Last year I wanted a windshield banner that replicated the banners the ORECA cars had at Lemans. Jon didn't actually get the replica banners for me, he got me the REAL ones straight from ORECA in France within about 2 weeks from my inquiry. I doubt anyone else could have done that.

I buy some parts from Partsrack and most from Snake Oyl Products but one thing is for sure and that is JonB knows his ****. Sure he may short with some people but he will always tell it like it is. 2 sides to every story.

Jon, please know that I have never publicly or privately bashed you.

Not that you thought otherwise, I just wanted to make it clear.
