Looking for a Gen I stock exhaust for my '94. I currently have Roe high-flow cats and Borla mufflers, I want something a little more tame. My current setup resonates with the top on and it gets annoying after a few hours...

Located near Atlanta, make frequent trips to West Virginia, so TN, KY, OH, PA, VA, NC, SC and FL are all close for me...

Also, if its in good shape I may pay to ship it...

have you had one with stock exhaust???? I have a complete stock system. You won't like it tho, way too restrictive. Takes at least 25-30 horses away.
Do you have 2-1/2 inch or 3 inch now?

Have someone take the borlas out and put in some $45 dollar glass packs, pretty relativly tame sound. The Borlas and the Corsas are made out of stainless. too tinny sounding for me. they sound like Yamahas on steroids to me

I believe it is 3 inch, but I'm not 100%, I bought it this way. I have heard the stock exhaust and would rather it sound like that than the headache I have now...

I also have to be concerned about emissions because Georgia ***** and I have to test on a dyno every year...

Have you tried calling Roe. He might have a stock system they cut out. I know that "Got one" is looking for a system like yours and his is stock, but he's in Austin.

Ya, if you want to trade...

after talking to a few guys, unless I can find a stock system close, I may just try a different muffler and keep the high-flow cat

While we are on this subject, help me understand the setup:

It seems to me that there is probably a flange at the back of the exhaust manifold that bolts to the stock system. If I could find a stock system still all together it would bolt right in. However, when people modify the exhaust they cut the cat and muffler off behind this flange and weld the new cat and muffler to the flange...is that right? I know the muffler and cat are welded together without any bolt connection.

Also, how hard is it to remove the side sills to get to the exhaust?

If I understand the setup correctly I could take the side sills off, drive to a muffler shop, unbolt the setup I have now, have them cut off the current muffler (leave the high flow cat) and weld on a new muffler?

thanks in advance for the education

Here was my post from my install of the Roe system.

Remove the sills

1. Hit the rusty screws on the clamp that holds the turn down on your existing muffler, this needs to come off in order to get the bolts out on the muffler hanger.

2. Remove both bolts on the muffler hanger.

3. Saws-all.... Cut the stock exhaust off in front of the cats right by the weld.

4. Use heavy sandpaper or a small rotatary tool to grind the rust off the pipe remaining.

5. Put some lube, I used WD-40, on the pipe you just cleaned.

6. Slide on the exhaust and clamp it down!!

7. On the old exhaust will be a piece of rubber you will need to use when mounting the new muffler onto the car. You will need to take the saws-all again to cut some ******* off the stock muffler in order to get the rubber off.

8. Slide the rubber onto the new muffler hanger and bolt up to the car.

9. Install and align the turn down. You will need to slide the sills on to align them. If Roe does not do it polish the turn down first, it is stainless steel.

Reinstall the sills.

It is litterally that simple! From what Roe told me if you have a 92 or 93 some welding is required.

Bought it from Roe's website, currently $40 off. The mufflers are actually Borla's and the cats are Roe high flow cats.

There is a flange on the exhaust manifold.

The side sills are easy to take off your car. Open the hood and in front there are 2 screws on each side on top of the sills. Then open your door and pull out the plastic plugs on the inner sills. Stick a ratchet though the holes and unbold the top. Jack the car to unbolt the underside of the sills and slide sills out.

There are ways to try to adjust the exhaust note. Someone makes a cone shaped screen that is inserted at the flange where the header and exhaust pipe bolt together, or you can buy an engine air/fuel management system to Dyno Tune the car. This will cut out some of the harsh sound.

I do have a complete stock exhaust system from the flange. I bought it off E-Bay 2 years ago. I bought it for the same reason you want to swap back...Headaches and serious loss of hearing over time. I am not interested in selling mine. I suggest you try to find someone parting out a car, or if you buy parts take the car to a custom exhaust shop. They should be able to weld it together in about 3 hours.

Good Luck.

94RT/10: That's exactly the setup I have on the car now, Roe cats and Borla mufflers and its just too loud for me. Thanks for the info on the install, now I know what was done to my car.

Jeff: Thanks, now I know that if I find someone willing to swap it should just be as simple as unbolting at the flange...

you got any stock cans laying around Jon?

what do you think about SNKEBIT's idea of cutting off the Borla mufflers and putting on 2.5" glass mufflers?

I have a stock exhaust on a 94 rt/10 i just picked up, its on the car now though, but im slighly interested in a swap if you are still interested. Its very quite, but has a good tone to it. My 93 rt/10 has full exhaust and I agree huge headache but worth it to me :)

Let me know if still interested... [email protected]

what exact parts would you be sending? How much work is involved on my part to make the swap. I am in VA if you are in the area.
