I will take back everything bad I said if they do this. I like your point on the Veyron, who were the aiming at in 91? Pretty much no one had 400hp back then, in 96, ~300hp was the top of the line, and they went 450. Now everyone has 500, 700 is a great start to just shut everyone the heck up (including me, heck I'd take my SRT convertible styling at 700hp)!

I bet they will do it if they can get past the emissions hurdles, they'll certainly sell all of them.

But I remain skeptical.

The Nevada newsletter, hmmm. I was wondering who leaked the "big" news and got DCX so mad.
That email just confirmed the rumors.

Yep - the email from Steve solidified the validity of these leaks.

seems silly to me to just have the coupe for one year. makes me wonder why they even had the coupe at all....i really like the new coupe and i wish they keep it for at least more than one year.

WHY? D-C (being the unresponsive behemoth they are) listened to our demands and built it for us.....Personally, I hope the SRT-C is a 1-year collectible.

By mid '07 I should have enough credits on my D-C Visa card to make a down payment on that Gen-4 700HP Hemi-head Bugatti look-a-like. Then I'm putting in 4:11 gears and buying stock in a tire factory. I'm stockpiling gasoline in 55 gal drums NOW while its only $2.25/gal. Or, maybe I'll be lucky and they'll offer the coasting 10-8-6-4 cyl option to save gas. Call it a VEC-10 maybe?

ehhh... i guess your right :2tu:

DC Mad?Probably because sales will go further down the can with anticipation of an improved 700 HP version.I still say BS.That will be one hell of an expensive street motor trying to pass emisions not including the need for an upgraded chasis, suspension, brakes, drive line, traction control........ at a reasonable price.I don't think there will be any market for a $150,000 Dodge except for a couple dozen or so. I'm with Bruce. The cost on such a car would probably be $125K - $150K if it is produced. Maybe many of you guys would have that kind of cash at your disposal or would want to go deep (some deeper) into debt to get it. Still think that the market for a Dodge at that price would be quite small. My two cents....

Well, with the LXs already getting 425HP and a future 392 Hemi probably destined for the LY based Challenger shown at SEMA with just over 500HP they have to move the Viper up. The Carbon Fiber Viper shown at SEMA in '04 had 625 HP normally aspirated from the 8.3L which uses old tech. It's not hard to imagine that they could pull at least that or more out of a smoggable normally aspirated 8.4L engine for close to the cost of the current car.

Hi
I am kind of new around here but read a lot of the post. I have a 01 GTS and I cancelled my order on a 06 GTS. A friend of mine has worked in the Viper Factory for 9 years and told me they are re tooling and working on the engine assembly line right now to give the Viper more HP. He told me to cancel my 06 gts and wait so I did. I hope the rumors are true.

If any one is interested in a real nice solid yellow 01 GTS please let me know.
Thank You Very Much
Jerry

Why not hold on to your GTS at least until you know that there is a hp bump coming? that way you'll always have the fun of the Viper. Your info seems to point to a horsepower bump coming in the gen III which would put job 1 for the gen IV off at least a year.

These types of post always make me laugh. Cars are like computers. There is always a better and faster computer every six months. So if I wait I can get the best one. Only problem is there is another better and faster one coming out just after you bought yours.

Buy the car you like for today and upgrade in a few years to the best out in that year. There will always be a better faster car.

Very true - I'm planning on keeping my GTS for the duration and adding another Viper. I can't afford to "blow the ***" on a gen III when a vastly improved gen IV is just around the corner. If the gen IV looks aren't superior to the gen III then I'll head down to the dealer, get a gen III and do exactly what you said - upgrade it.

this is true, but at 50x the cost.... :) I bought the Apple 30" display a couple months ago, and 10 days later they dropped the price by $500...... was I pissed? sure.... but if I bought a SRT coupe now, and a the next model had 600+ HP.... I would be a little more worked up.... :)

Listen to Dan Knotts... he said to save our pennies for the new stuff coming up. Guess he doesn't want us to buy the current lineup. What a nice guy for the inside tip. :D

LOL! Not to mention the fact that our newsletter item regarding the gen IV ********** the folks at SRT and DCX...I guess because the gen III is not selling well at all.

Isn't the gen 3 out-selling the gen 2?............Do we really want a high numbers Viper ?.........

You're right on both counts. The problem with the gen III has been overproduction and now that is combined with the effect of stiffening competition from the other manufacturers. I believe there is currently a 250+ day supply of new gen IIIs and there are many dealers still sitting on new '04s as well. We don't want a high numbers Viper and we don't want Vipers languishing on showroom floors for hundreds of days at a time.

Its been that way for years. Before I bought a new 01 I wanted the color black. Since there was no color black in 01, I had no trouble finding 2000 black RT/10s & GTS'. I even had a dealer call me a few times trying to make a deal. Instead I picked a beautiful new 01 saphire blue RT/10. Bottom line is new Vipers are expensive toys. Thats why in 13 years only 17000 Vipers were sold.

Seems only logical to give the Viper nation a major power boost in the Gen IV given the competition of Z06 and besides, already in the family is the 2006 SL65 AMG is at 604HP (twin turbo V-12).

If Ford with all their financial challenges got the GT accomplished, the big time hit-factory known as SRT should have carte-blanche from DCX to truly blow away the competition.

Like GTS Bruce, thinking about emissions rules, I'm most curious what engine technology SRT's got up their sleeves....oh, (unlike me) don't forget the weight-loss program, please.

It was technology that brought back side pipes that could meet EPA OB II requirements. Maybe there is hope for 700 hp too.
