I just moved here in October. The Carolinas chapter is headquartered here and appears to be fairly active. Vir is about 80 minutes north. Viper Days runs an event there yrly. The club had an autocross in Sanford (hour south) and participates in a local car show at the fairgrounds in Nov, also they have a karting day at VIR and are having a dyno day shortly. No major car shows like Amelia or Greenwich. Climate is great, lots of open roads, great schools, a growing area. 2 hrs to the beach and about the same to the mountains. Very good local Viper technician at Leith Dodge. All autos must pass inspection and emissions test (with sniffer) Road Atlanta and Roebling Road both about 5 1/2 hrs south. You may want to talk to the local Prez Randy Cade (RCviper) or Janni who have been here longer than I. State income tax 6.5 to 8% depending on your income. Property tax very reasonable. Hope this helps.

The vehicle tax is on a DMV valuation of the vehicles, and is less than the Viper would sell for. Bonus though, no front license plates!

That 3% is a one time deal... it's the same as sales tax. My 97 GTS was valued at 18K LOL! :D

There is no sniffer test.. only OBDII reading checking for codes. My blown GTS w/o cats passes inspection.

Does the carolina's chapter have it's own site? I'm down in Fayetteville
Ricketts

No, but there are many events in the works for the upcoming year, check with the Carolinas club president Randy Cade.

As far as drag strips:

Best 1/8th mile in your area: Piedmont Dragway www.piedmontdragway.com (1h away)
Other 1/8th miles:
Roxboro Dragway (30 min away)
Farmington Dragway (2 hours)
Dun-Benson

1/4 mile tracks:
Rockingham
VIR
Fayetteville (pretty good track)
Darlington, SC (really like this track)

If you ever come to piedmont let me know. It's about 5 miles from my house. They have some fun shows during the year, such as "big dog". An unlimited type class that runs once a month. Usually have cars running 4.10's or so, fun to watch.
