Side sill paint scorched but the bad part is the sill warped under the intense heat.

Price of a new sill..........SIX THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS

I was deathly ill after it happened until a good friend put into perspsectve and said life's too short, it's just a car AND insurance will pay to have it repaired.

Don't know what they will say to a 7k body shop estimate though.
Filed the claim today. We'll see.........

Loose plug wire or stuck injector

I'm betting on the plug wire

Raw fuel into the cat caused it to mondo overheat, lucky I was only less than a mile from home.

As soon as I got to my driveway I got the garden hose on it as soon as I shut it off, kept the door open so it didn't take any heat, and removed a red hot sill and all of the red hot attachment screws faster that I have EVER done it.
I don't even remember removing the sill screw hole plugs, but I used a feeler guage and surprisingly did not leave even ONE scratch on the black paint in all the commotion!

My wife was there and she said she has never seen me so focused and "on a mission" She said she was softly asking if she could do anything to help but I didn't even hear hear her let alone answer. I was in a zone all to myself.

Now to get it repaired, really don't need "show car" paint as then it would look out of place with the rest of the car's finish..... not that my finish is faded or crappy by any means!

Im sure you can find a USED side sill for less than 1k and figure another $250 to paint... save you the insurance claim

Did you try X2 Builders to see if you can get a cheap side sill? Also check ViperpartsLarry.com and see if he has a used one.

A good pannel shop should be able to work it back into shape.Get rid of the cats and drop the engine, engine compartment, side sill and passenger compart temps.Enjoy what the car should sound like. GTS Bruce

Have the Random Tech and Corsa ready to go on, good thing that I didn't as when the insurance adjuster was asking a ton of questions, like ANY modifications, any recent work, what type of work has been done etc etc. I can see anything negative being an out for them not paying. Guess it's just a gamble that we take as enthusiasts.

It is beyond "hammering and dollying" as the metal has been so fatigued, even the mounting area that is stamped into the metal has drooped and lost all its creases, angles and shape.

X2 did not have a drivers side RED

Found one that has some minor dings and scrapes that will need some light body work and paint

Carbon fiber has GOT to be as expensive as the stock sills no?

Also considering the aftermarket fiberglass sills

Any comments on the CF and glass sills from anyone?

Thanks

I guarantee I could have some carbon side sills made for MUCH less than the stock pieces. I've been looking into it, and right now just locating the carbon cloth has been the hard part. But I'd imagine $2000-2500 for the pair would be about right, and considerably lighter as well.

I'm also working on valve covers. Soon as we locate some material it's a go. :2tu:

How hard is it to remove the cats? Are they welded on? sounds like the way to go if youcan get away with it.

Autoform makes side sills in fiberglass and carbon. I have seen them on one car and they looked great. I have been considering using them to go to side exhaust. They are a little over $900 for the pair in fiberglass, I think. I don't know if they will hold up to the heat the cats make which is not an issue for me.

Sure DID Bubs.........we're talking CHERRY RED HOT

I guess you would want the fiberglass if you were going to paint them......it would be a shame to paint over that CF.
The stock aluminum sills are pretty light.....I can't imagine how light the CF parts must be.

Anyone running the fiberglass or CF.....please check in

Thanks
