Hello

I need some help. I am looking for a set of rotors and pads. I want to keep the price to around 1,000.00. Please let me know what brands of rotors and pads are the best bang for 1,000.00.

Thanks

Terry

Terry. You gotta consider Dave's big brakes. They use inexpensive OEM Dodge SRT brakes from the latest Vipers. Cheapest 4 wheel system takes your stock front brakes and puts them on the back. Best system upgrades to SRT all around. Maybe a little over $1,000 for the package.

Best bang for the buck is to stay all stock. Get new rotors and pads from Tator/Parts Rack/Your friendly local Dodge dealer, etc.

Don't hold me on prices, but believe his brackets are $600-$800. Then you use factory SRT rotors (about $100 ea.) and the pucks of your choice. ($80-$200 ea.)
ABS Systems cost a little more, so it just depends on your preferences.
Lots of our club members have bought them, and the reviews are good.
Check him out at the suppliers section, classifieds, or www.davesvipershop.com

Cost extra if you want calipers power coated other than standard black or red.
Shop around for best prices on OEM parts. Parts Rack seems good, but Wizard, Tators, DC Performance etc. are reliable suppliers. Could get take offs from any of the tuners that may be doing upgrades. Rotors weigh so much, that any savings can be eaten up in shipping.

Nice to have Dodge parts in case of warranty/service issues. These brakes also look pretty cool too.

A side note is that it is kind of scary me to see posts asking for the cheapest brake upgrades. Better to decide what you are trying to accomplish and then shop prices. Having a set amount to spend may cause compromises that could turn out to be life threatening.

Dave is a neighbor of mine. Really great guy. (Don't tell him I said that).

For those with Gen 1 or Gen 2's with 17" tires I really like Tom's rear caliper upgrade. I completed the change about 3 weeks ago and was hoping to get more seat time before starting a post to praise this upgrade. Viper really seems to "squat" when braking. As a side note, I also went with the EBC rotors and with the Hawk HPS pads. Minimal dust with the pads - far better than stock - but they still seem to bite very well. For those concerned that the EBC rotors are black - the acutal part that comes in contact with the pad will turn silver.

For under $1000.00 [99] stock:
Front rotors #4642122 MSRP $141.00 each
Front B/pads #4897218AB MSRP $239.00
Rear rotors #4642353 MSRP $115.00 each
Rear B/pads #4897219AB MSRP $199.00
Total $950.00 less 20% = $760.00 [plus shipping]
I have everything in stock.

For under $1000 I would stay stock with upgraded pads and some sort of brake cooling either the Porsche air deflectors or a custom built system like the Cone system. This is for track use. If you don't track the car use street pads for less dust and noise. Daves setup is great but will cost you more than $1000. I like the Alcon setup which is not much more than Dave's kit once everything is said and done and everything is there.
