Carnuba wax or a poly type polish?

Which do you think is better? A local detail shop told me that the polymer "soaks" into the paint?

What I am looking for is ease and longevity...for the polish.

For ease and longevity, Zaino is the way to go, IMO.

It's the simplest stuff on this planet to apply and buff off. It lasts as long as any wax I've tried, and the depth is hard to beat. According to Zaino Bros, it's about as "optically pure" as you're going to get, and they have a full line of detail sprays and car washes to compliment their polishes.

It's a little on the expensive side, but IMO, it's the best stuff on the market. It almost gives the car a 'wet look'....

Well, this is where I think regular wax might beat Zaino. It seems like most people who use Zaino already have perfect paint and clear coat. I think the Meguire's system to remove swirls and minor blemishes would do a better job than Zaino. Zaino is good stuff...but like I said...I don't think it's design to do what meguire's system can....I maybe wrong on this...it's just my opinion...but then again, I never used Zaino...just saw others with "perfect" paint use it and swear by it.

Ab - good to see you still lurking the site. When you gonna replace that gorgeous GTS you had?

Last year I used Zaino and was pretty happy with the results and longevity - but decided to try Pinnacle Souveran Wax. I gotta say that the finish is amazing. It's hard to describe the difference, but my RED looks REDDER! Very deep finish, wet look, and very, very easy to apply. Can't really comment on the longevity, but it goes on so easy (like butter), and I find waxing the Viper almost theraputic and enjoy putting it on.

Only downside is the cost is higher than other waxes out there - but I feel the quality and easy of application justifies the added cost.

Hello AB,

I think you might want to try the new polishing compound from Zaino. I used to be a die hard 3M user as far as finish correction, but traded it when I used the new Zaino product. I have also used all of Meguire's compounds as well as Griot's.

I did half of the hood on my new Subaru with the 3M and the other half with the Zaino. There was really no comparison. My Subaru is black so after I finished I pulled it out into the sun as well as looked at it under florescent lights and the finish was more even with the Zaino. No swirl marks at all. You do have to use the Zaino spray to remove the slight haze left by the polish, but it is nothing compared to removing 3M polish especially after it has dried. The 3M is also much more dependent on the pressure used with your buffer. I usually have to touch up areas where I have used the 3M due to slight remnant swirls. I did not have to touch up any of the Zaino side.

I have since used it on my Viper with equally good results. If you want a second opinion, ask Steve Fess, he has seen my car plenty of times.

I fully believe in correcting the finish first then applying whatever wax you prefer. I do not believe in trying to fill the swirls and scratches with wax. After I purchased my Viper I went over the whole car with polishing compounds and wet sanded the finish to fix what blemishes came from the factory. I then applied my Zaino over the already smooth finish.

Hope this helps. :2tu:

ease and longevity...might be mutually exclusive. The longer lasting waxes tend to be harder to apply.

Easiest way to a great finish.
Wash car.
Clay car, with detail spray, to get down to the finish.
If your car does not need to be sanded, buffed etc. Apply easy coat of Meguiars NXT Tech Wax....Wax on...Wax off.
Maintain with detail spray when needed.

Lots of other great products out there. Zaino is almost a religous passage. Souveran produces some great results but some feel it is overpriced. My favorite for easy system is liquid glass/liquid first class.

Any wax will look better than no wax.

I like the combo of 3M Imperial hand glaze and P21S carnuba wax.

What ever happened to the Liquid Glass with PTFE? It sounded interesting, but I was a bit taken back after the president was called out on this site for not disclosing his conflict of interest.

If you have a car with minor swirl marks, the Zaino Z5 product is just the thing. Z2 is strictly a polish, Z5 is a swirl remover/polish. To do the full Zaino routine, it's Z7 (soap), Z5 (swirl remover), Z2 (polish), Z8 (detail spray, gloss enhancer). You do that after a claybar and then follow up with regular Z7, Z2, Z8 routine, your paint will look [******]-hot. If your paint needs a little more TLC, the Z-PC works wonders for "leveling" the finish.

There are people who hate the Zaino product, though I'm not quite sure why. It's really produced good results in my experience.

One thing to remember is the Zaino Z5 does not actually remove the swirls, it just fills them in. There is actually no buffing compound in Z5. The only buffing compound Zaino offers is the new one. I think it is Z2 if I remember correctly.

Another point to consider is the color of your car. I recently saw an older white BMW 5 series that you could actually see the yellowed build up of poor quality carnuba wax.

Thats right. Zaino Z5 just hides the blemishes. For true removal of swirl marks and other minor imperfections, use Zaino Fusion. With Fusion, what you see is what you get. I've used it and it works well.

What about that stuff from Brazil that the detail guru in England uses? It's "only" 6K for a bucket. :p (I don't think that it's available in smaller amounts.) You have to put it on BY HAND, as the the heat from your hands "activates" the pure carnuba.
