19\" Tire Size Issues

I am considering purchasing aftermarket wheels and also plan to lower the Viper 1" or so. As I understand it, there is only 1 tire (Pirelli 355/25-19) that maintains the stock rear wheel O.D. I'm reluctant to go this way, in case that tire is discountinued at some point in the future. The 345/30-19 is about 1.2" larger in diameter, but there is a greater choice of tires in this size.

For those of you who are running the 345/30-19's, what issues have you had. Did you have to recalibrate the speedo, any other suspension adjustment and/or performance issues? Would you recommend this set up or should I stick with the 18's? Thanks for your input.

Re: 19

Personally I prefer the 355/25. They just look better with the sidewall not being as tall. And they tend to fit the 13" rim better, they don't stretch as much to make the edge of the rim. But even if you go with a 345/30 the difference to the speedo will be negligable if anything.

Only issue is that when the suspension is in full droop (like jacked up with the tires off the ground or doing a Bo Luke-style jump) the larger diameter tires will slightly touch the fender liner on the front side of the rear wheel well opening. For this reason you CANNOT run the realy tall Bridgestone that come as OEM on the Enzo and will fit on a Gen III car.

The taller tires change your gearing about 0.25:1 so for example if you had 3:73 gears they would be just like having 3:55 with stock height tires, and if you have stock gearing it becomes ridiculously tall like a Gen III. And yes your speedo will have a slight error showing lower than actual speed.

I'd stay with 18s for performance/ride reasons. Don't like the BIG wheel/narrow spoke open wheel/little rotor look.

you could always put some 15" rotors on to fill up the inner wheel emptiness.

You still get less grip, worse ride and higher rotating mass. No thanks.

Re: 19

Thanks for the input. Apparently, Forgeline now makes an 18x13 SP3P for the Viper (HRE 547R look) wheel. While I think the 19s look awesome, and would like to close the fender gap a bit more, I think I'll just go with the 18s all the way around and lower the car slightly more than I planned to get the ride height/fender gap the way I want it.

I appreciate all of the advice. Any Forgeline SP3P or HRE 54X pics would also be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of all polished version.

Re: 19

Mark, I'll try to reach you this week on your cell.

Purdue, I plan to purchase through Parts Rack if/when I decide which wheel/size combo to go with.

SSSee Ya, thanks for the Pic. Those wheels look awesome. What size tire are you running on the rear 19s?

Re: 19

HoustonT, how much have you lowered your car? That's exactly the look I'm going for. . .very low, and small fender gaps.

Also, how did you lower?

Thanks.

Re: 19

Vipertime, I don't find 18x13 SP3P for the Viper on the Forgeline site. Where did you hear that they were offering it in that size?

Re: 19

Purdue, I sent you an e-mail, but just in case. . .Jon B at Partsrack told me about it first. I called Forgeline to check as they don't show them on the web site. The first answer was "no," but when I asked them to double-check, they said that they do indeed have the parts to make the 18x13 for the rear of the car. Hope this helps.

Re: 19

vipertime - I have KW coilovers on the car. I'm not sure exactly how low it is, all I know is that I had RSI lower it until "it looked right to me". I'm sorry there is not more of a technical answer but I can tell you that all four corners are the same height from the ground and the car has been aligned and corner balanced. I love the ride and the height.
