Anyone ever have the \"Alarm Set\" light stay on constantly?

I am seeking information on what could be the problem for the "Alarm Set" light to always stay on while the car is running. The light stays on solid not blinking. My key fob also does not work. The car is a 94 RT/10 and it has been this way since I bought it a few weeks ago. The car starts and runs great, but I want to fix this. Chuck Tator has been a big help and faxed me the pages from the service manual, but it does not say anything about the light staying on solid when the car is on.
I have not had time to disconnect the battery or drop the knee bolster. Has anyone else ever ran into this problem? Is it a simple fix? I am hoping my key fob just needs reprogrammed. What should I do?

I have found the members here to be extremely helpful.

Be patient and give your post more than 2 hrs for a response-someone will be able to help you:)

My light doesn't stay on constantly, however I have a GenII, don't know if there's a difference. I would think Chuck Tator would know if anyone did-or some of the guys here :2tu:

I wrote the reply as a joke. All of the members I have met have been helpful people. Plus, I wanted to get the post back up to the top of the thread.

I don't think it is the battery. It seems fairly new, holds a great charge, and the car runs great w/o any other issues.

It's pretty simple to remove the bulb (I just had to replace the high beam bulb.) Many bulbs are there - obvious question is whether it's really that bulb or is there another one also on?

Does the alarm work (chirp when turned on, horn blows when door opened?)

I think I bought an alarm module from eBay and found that it comes from another car, like a minivan. It might not be expensive to replace.

If you don't get anywhere, I'll let you borrow it to see if that is it.

My alarm does nothing because I cannot activate it due to the key fob not even being recognized. I could care a less about the alarm, but I worry about not being able to start the car if my battery would ever go dead.

I had it happen when my battery died. After replacing the battery I also found my remote key fob died, so wasn't positive the alarm was stuck going off and killed the battery or it was just a coincidence, but after a new battery and remote keyfob all was well.

Don't know if you have a service manual, but if you disconnect the battery and reset the key fobs, they should be properly sync'ed to activate the alarm. I suppose if it doesn't the alarm box is no good.

As Cal mentioned, the fob itself has a watch battery inside. You can test the battery with a voltmeter to see how good it is.

I believe you have to reset or sync all the fobs (up to four, I think) at one time. If you replace a fob battery, I would therefore assume you have to sync the new battery fob as well as the other one.

I know, you have to find a place to do this, since if the car won't start, you'll be sitting for a while. Loaner offer is always good.

Guys thanks for all the info. so far. I bought new batteries to put in the key fob. I only have one key fob for the car. The car is garage kept and I only drive it once every two weeks if that (The car has low miles). If I disconnect the battery and still cannot get the alarm to work I am guessing there is a good chance the car won't start? If the alarm does not work and the car won't start is it best to just leave the positive lead disconnected from the battery until the box is replaced? I guess I then order a new alarm brain and door lock box from Chuck Tator?

It was actually my alarm remote keyfob that failed. I got a replacement remote from Tators, plus a new car battery and life was good (after reprogramming the keyfob, which is very easy).

I suspect in retrospect that the keyfob malfunctioned, causing the alarm to constantly go off, and killed the car battery (it would no longer hold a charge, even though according to the date code on the battery it was only a couple of years old).

But definitely start with the least expensive things to replace, like the keyfob battery.

I agree - if something's bad, there's a chance it won't start. Call Chuck and see if he has a box in stock, then for ha-ha's try the battery disconnect. Inquiring minds want to know...

Re: Anyone ever have the

I finally had a chance to look into my alarm situation and fixed the problem. I started by putting new batteries in the remote and it still did not work. Then, I followed the instructions from the repair manual for programming a remote (I don't want to list all those details on a public forum). All of a sudden my alarm set light was off when the car was on and I was able to arm and disarm the alarm. I hope it continues to work :) Also, a thank you to Chuck Tator for the added information and help.
