My 06 Srt10 Coupe barely has 490 miles on her..

I was wondering..is it ok to shift 1, 3, 5, then 6?

Save gas etc...I mainly do this when in traffic or just goig to work...on longer rides i will go through all the gears...The Viper is mainly just for pleasure when i have time...this thing will remain babied for its life...

Probably for the best right now, as you are keeping the revs down. Won't hurt the car in the least bit, especially during break in.

I'd have to say shift in the pattern they designed the transmission for, just shift at low rpm's. I can get 24mpg on the highway, 7mpg on a road course:)

No need to rev to 5K every shift but there is also no need to keep it at idle. Just drive it normally and it will go strong for over 100,000 miles.

IMO, during the break-in period (and let me suggest that your motor will continue to break in during the first 2k miles or so) you should avoid skipping gears. Skipping gears may lug the engine, which is not good. Instead, run each gear smoothly and steadily right up to your break-in rpm and then grab the next gear and do the same. That way, the engine gets to use a wide range of rpms and never lugs. No full throttle till 500 miles. This has always worked well for me for all of my racing vehicles as well as street vehicles (meaning solid hp and durability).

I have 1,450 miles on my 2006 coupe and after the break in as "Scott in FL" suggests I do skip gears depending on the situtation. In low speed ares I often do 1, 2, 4. In higher spped areas like entering a freeway, 1,2,3,5. Has not affected the operation of the car whatsoever. Actually seems to get quicker each time I take it out. Did the same on my 2006 GTS and it is running perfectly with no problems at all and t has almost 13,000 on it.

Totally agree, IMO lugging any engine is not good for it.

Brad, you just made my 'secret' public:). I have shorter 3.55 gears and I confess that many times when driving through Prague's lights and in traffic I am lazy so I shift exactly as you said - 1-3-5. Only when I want to floor it (showoff:) I do 1-2-3... and my radar detector beeps:). With the stock gears 1-3-5 might not work. With 3.55 - very sweet.

Chime in: I go 1-3-5 all the time, esp when in city traffic, shifting through sequentialy is a waste of time, plus you'll have both hands on the wheel more with 1-3-5.
IMHO.

I don't think I have EVER hit 5th in city traffic!

You're in Edmonton, right? Whitemud perhaps? Coming off Calgary trail, westbound, at rush hour, behind a bunch of semis?
or Deerfoot if you dare in Calgary.
OK, maybe 1-3-4-5 or 1-3-4-6 even. But don't tell me you've never intentionaly skipped a gear, or two.

Let me see. You make childish statements towards non-Viper owners and bash others who ask questions about their Vipers. I think you answered your own question. Ass.
