Re: Session is live

Please help! What is wrong with my viper? Bought '05 Viper new. Motor runs rough at lower RPM's, drops a cylinder often and randomly, felt and heard through drivetrain, I'm not lugging the car, In stop and go traffic you can go no lower than first gear and stay with the pace. AFTER 5 OR 6 LIGHT I WANT TO SELL THE CAR! I have already been to a Viper tech, with no luck.
x

Of course it is basically impossible to diagnose an issue over the Internet, so I suggest that you take the car into a dealer. This sounds like it isn't working for you however so you could also call 1-800-992-1997 and you will be prompted for SRT questions.

Re: Session is live

Thank you very much. I want to put either the Mopar Street Exhaust or the Mopar Track Exhaust on the car as well. I am being told that the Mopar Street Exhaust is the best bet if I do not plan on racing the car. (I do not). Did SRT test the Mopar Street Exhaust and does it make a difference in your opinion in Power/Sound ?

Sincerely,

John (Stray Cat)

Go with the street exhaust. It's a mild improvement (5-8HP) over stock. The db level on the race exhaust is mind numbing on the street.

Re: LX shift hesitation

I have a question per the LX vehicles and the 1-2 shift hesitation problem... a couple months ago you guys stated that the release of a Flash/TSB was "imminent"... any update on when we can expect the bulletin?

Re: Session is live

I purchased a 2005 SRT 10 and I am concerned about the quality of the vehicle. In the first year of ownership, Dealer replaced convertible top frame, window motors, hood because of cracks in the paint and had to repaint it. Also, I had a problem with a noise in the drive train and transmission. After contacting DC, the Service Rep never inspected or test drove the vehicle and I was told that this was a normal condition. Chrysler cannot find anyone from Chrysler to inspect the powertrain and test drive my vehicle to address my concern. Are there any problems with the power transmission and differential or any service bulletins? The problem I still have with the vehicle is that the paint does not match "race yellow". I need force to open the convertible top, driver's window is not closing completely, and there is the noice in the drive train. Would appreciate any comments and/or a recommendation to a competent dealer where I could have a DC Rep inspect my vehicle. Thank you. Wolfgang Schulz, Bradenton, Florida.
x Wolfgang please send us, directly, the last 8 of your VIN to "SRTengineer" and hopefully we can help you out.

Re: Session is live

There have been recommendations by some on the SRT10 forums that inflating the stock run-flats to 33-34 psi would maximize the footprint, and that lower pressure than this will load the sidewalls more than the center of the tire. Have you done any testing with run-flat tire pressures that substantiates this claim? What pressures would you recommend for track events?

Re: LX shift hesitation

Although I've had many performance cars, I'm new to Vipers. I just purchased a 2003 with 10,000 miles and have been concerned with how much erratic pull I have to fight from the front wheels hitting irregularities in the road surface. The worst are the ruts left at intersections near the white stop lines. It's like a bad video game. I asked the Viper mechanic at the local Dodge dealer and he blamed it on wide tires (they are stock). On a smooth highway, the car feels twitchy- I assuming because of the fast steer, but otherwise OK. Any thoughts?

I have a 96' RT/10 and seem to have my idle hang problem coming back. I have cleaned the IAC and regrounded the TPS at the PCM and at the sensor itself. I have reset the PCM, but the problem comes back in a few miles. Idle hang is not constant, but I'd say 50% of the time. Car is stock motor wise. Any suggestions on what to try?

Regarding the SRT8/LX platform cars(copied for a friend)
Is ESPs intervention in a turn based on a G-limit, or a G-change rate? Meaning that wheanever I hit .8 Gs lateral , HAL steps in, or is it how fast I hit that .8?

The numbers are made up and meaningless, but the point is that if my turn is smooth, and the change from 0-.8Gs takes .8 milliseconds, as oppposed to me yanking the wheel and hitting .8 in .3 milliseconds, is HAL not going to intervene?

I suspect that its the latter, that rate of change is a crucial part of HALs trigger. This knowledge could lead to a better understanding of how to drive faster with ESP engaged in different modes.

Can someone provide "us" / VCA / Jay-IVR with final M.Y. Viper producton numbers / colors for 2005 and 2006? We have a good handle on everything 1992 - 2004, but then pretty much ZIP after that. There are so many special editions and combos avail ( a good thing ) that its getting more difficult to keep track.... BEFORE THE DATA IS LOST !!!

THANKS

Re: Session is live

Thank You.... I am thinking about putting the EBC Green Brake Pades on all four wheels of my 05 SRT-10. I put them on the front of my Prowler and love the fact that it cut down on dust 95%. As stated in a previous post, I do not intend to Race the car, but rather street cruise, pleasure drives and of course spirited country driving. Once warmed up, are these pads Ok in your mind to put on the Viper ? LOVE the 05's brakes over my 2001. You did a great job..... I want a clean car but one that will stop well too... Advice ?

Re: Session is live

I have the 2005 Yellow Fever VCA edition SRT-10. New it had the "Dreaded Shock Rattle" when hitting bumps. The aftermarket shock bolts helped some, but I still get some of the "rattle". My 2003 SRT-10 had non of this. What changed and what can you recommend to eliminate it?

PBR

First just to make sure, check all the fasteners to make sure they're tight. If so,it is possible that the shock has a bad internal part. See your dealer for a diagnosis.......

We have done all our track proveouts at 29psi cold. The PS1 runflats are STIFF, and not as sensitive to pressure as a regular tire. That said, your alignment, ambient conditions, and driving style have a large effect on tire temperature and wear. For track events, shoot for 38-39psi hot. Let them cool down out of the sun for at least 4 hours and use that cold pressure as your starting point for the next track event.

Re: Session is live

The stock Paxton system for the Gen III has now been around for a number of years. (I have a 2006 coupe prepared by Woodhouse with the stock Paxton installation, Eibachs, Motons, corner balanced, competition coupe oil pan, Corsa track cat back exhaust, tightened shifter mechanism and skip shift eliminated. It runs perfectly.). There was also an article on this application in the Viper Quarterly. Are you all generally pleased with what you have seen/heard regarding the stock Paxton installation? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Is there something that can be done with the vipers current redline rpm without extensive engine modifications, balancing, cam change, etc. Within reason of course. I currently have the pcm, exhaust, 3.55 gears.

Why has SRT shied away from forced induction on their engines? The only turbo is on the SRT-4 cylinder engines. Why not turbo or supercharge a v-8 or a v-10 ?

Your Viper tech is right - 275 mm is a wide front tire, and as a result the ZB does follow ruts more than a lot of other performance cars. Have your tech verify that the wheel alignment is in spec, and set your tire pressures to 29 psi cold if you haven't already. Brand new tires will do this more than tires with some mileage on them. Enjoy the fantastic turn-in that you've earned!

Parts for the Viper seem to be getting more and more scarce. Is Dodge going to continue to support the early Viper Generations (GEN I AND GEN II) with parts?

I suspect that its the latter, that rate of change is a crucial part of HALs trigger. This knowledge could lead to a better understanding of how to drive faster with ESP engaged in different modes.

ESP works by using steering wheel angle and vehicle speed to calculate the yaw the car should be producing in a turn. The yaw sensor measures the actual yaw and a comparison between the calculated and actual is made. When the difference exceeds a certain threshold, the ESP system intervenes to either help the car turn more if understeering or help the car turn less if oversteering.

ESP intervenes sharply when, for instance, you chop in opposite lock when the back end takes a step out. Since you are steering in the opposite direction you are turning, the difference between calculated yaw versus the actual yaw is huge and the ESP system grabs the car hard.

We are getting all the numbers together and will post them shortly. It looks like the '06 MY was pushing 1900 cars and we are finding some other cool stuff, such as only 31 slate coupes were built and it looks like only one red coupe was built with black stripes and H spokes wheels! Will post it once everything is confirmed. '05 also.

No. The peak power of that engine is not near redline. You wouldn't get much gain by increasing redline (assuming that's the something what you wanted to do)

We obviously recommend stock pads for your application. We have thousands of track and street miles on our Vipers. While you may be getting less dust you may be significantly affecting your braking performance.

FWIW: We have a couple of racers in the group that were not really impressed with the EBC products.

Re: Session is live

We recognize that this is a problem. We are in the process of meeting with our co-workers at Mopar to try and work out a long term solution. I wish I had more details to offer, but I can only advise you to keep in touch with the forums. FYI, your VCA Officers are also very concerned about this and bring it to our attention each time we meet. We will be working through them on the solution as well. Stay tuned.

Check for vacuum leaks but from description if condition is improved after PCM reset then leak is not likely. If there are no leaks, I would suspect the IAC is faulty but could also be the TPS (the PCM is relearning the problem after reset).

Never say never....but..doing a development program for a blown motor is a huge deal especially for a small team like ours......

Re: Session is live

At VOI9 I drag raced my 2005 for the first time. I did three runs as fast as the session would allow (about 10 minutes between runs). Each run was slower than the previous run, and the third run did not break 100 MPH. It was like the engine went flat below 4000 RPM's. The water temp was not extremely hot. Can you explain what was happening, or if there is something I should be looking for?
Thanks for these sessions!

I know future product isn't discussed, but what would the goals, or areas of improvement, be for the Viper? IF it could be made better.
I hope this is general enough of a question.
:)
+1 on thanks for taking the time for these discussions.

I would like to do a few things to increase performence, one was an exhaust noted in an earlier post. The other I have been thinking about is a K&N Box. In your opinion, what are the top three or four mods to make without decreasig reliability, yet giving a little extra punch/performance ?
