Hello all, Recently my insurance coverage went from 512.00 a year to 712.oo a year. That's with Grundy with an agreed value of 48,500. Does anyone know of another company I can try for a better rate? Thanks :usa:

If you, or your parents or spouse, are/were ever in the military...go with USAA.

I agree with dano. I have been with USAA for many many years and I don't think any company can beat them.

That seems very reasonable to me, I'm with Grundy and pay more than that with a 55K agreed value. I had Geico before that, and that was 1100.00 a year with NO agreed value. No accidents or tickets in over 25 years.

There are 2 factors to consider: Price and Performance. Meaning are you going to get paid properly or are you going to get the shaft when the shiite hits the fan? To me there is one and only one great insurance company and that is State Farm.

Ahh...State Farm. I was a loyal customer of theirs for many, many years. I had my car and homeowner's insurance with them. State Farm is great as long as you don't file any claims.

After nearly 20 years I finally had two payable claims on my homeowner's insurance for different incidents. There was also a third one on my record from several years prior that I had just called to inquire about something and no payout from State Farm because it was less than my deductible. Because of those three things they canceled my homeowner's insurance.

I decided to return the favor and I canceled my auto insurance when it was time to renew. I didn't care if I paid double somewhere else but State Farm was no longer going to be my insurance company for anything. I shopped around and found Safeco, who factored in my high credit rating when determining rates. My agent says he can't even get the low rate I'm getting.

I saved over $600/yr on my car insurance by switching to Safeco. I was so happy I sent State Farm a thank you letter to their headquarters in Bloomington, IL. I told them their local agent was the best person I had ever done business with but I wouldn't insure a doghouse with State Farm.

BTW, the rate on my Viper with a $500 ded. is $387.60 every 6 months. This is in the suburbs of what was recently named the most dangerous city in the U.S., a statistic which many of us disagree with.

Thats the issue, no agreed value. I don't want to be handed a check for 32K for book value on my car, which would cost 45K to replace. I want MORE than it's worth.

You don't really need agreed value any more in my opinion if you go with Geico. They gave me $62,000 for my first GTS when I totaled it this April, no hassle at all. I almost fell off my chair when they called me. They also gave me complete flexibility to decide whether to total it or repair it.

I consider my USAA coverage on the Viper a gamble if the car is ever totalled. With an approximate market value of, say $65K and a book value of around $45-50K, I can only wonder what kind of hassle I'd have to go through to get the pay-off up to market, if that's even possible, or if I'd end up just eating the difference because of unwavering policy.

I have it in my mind to get the car on an AV policy before spring rolls around.

Take it from someone who knows.... the standard carriers.. (Statefarm, Allstate, Progressive, Geico, Nationwide) all have Actual Cash Value policies. That means, the actual cash value is what you are owed. That can change from time to time depending on the market.. but bottom line.. if it would cost $50,000 to purchase an identical vehicle... that's what the policy settles for.... book value is book value... but I know my company runs a market value appraisal to help them determine the true value of each totalled vehicle.

Spoken like a man who has never been victim to their drop policies.
Do a google search - State Farm has one of the largest class
lawsuits ever for hiring people to falsify medical records after
accidents so they can deny benefits. They're also notorious for
dropping home policies for the most assinine things - example:
smokinggun did a report where a guy in the mid-west was dropped
after an agent discovered a firing range on his farm. The range
in question - him shooting cans off a back fence post.

No thanks, given the choice I'd rather take my chances not having
insurance at all.

I had my Viper hit from the side and have State Farm Insurance. Car had a small crack in hood, 3" tear in facia and scuffed wheel, tire and door. Was the other partys fault. State Farm was great to me, covering the repairs costing 28,000$. They replaced the hood and front facia. They even refinished all 4 wheels to be sure that the two damaged ones matched the others. Also replaced all 4 tires and they could not find MXX3's to match the one that was damaged. They were the same when I hit a post with my truck, refusing to repair the bed side and insisting it be replaced as the truck was less than one year old. Not sure what they would do with a replacement but I have had good experiences in them covering damage.

USAA: Well I sure hope everything is alright... let me check some things... (keyboard keys clicking furiously...)

ME: (thinking to myself that maybe I should not have brought it up.. maybe they are getting supicious... nervous... nervous...I think it is still in the garage??... oh no.. what if somebody stole it!!!...)

USAA: Sir, if you were to make a total loss claim today we would cut you a check for around.. wow.. that's alot.. $29,500..

ME: :evilmad: :bonker: :evilmad: :bonker: :evilmad: :bonker: :hitfan: ARRRG I WOULD STAND TO LOSE AROUND $10,000 - $12,000!!!!!

I've totalled a car with USAA before. At first they offered me thousands under what I wanted. I just found a few autotrader.com adds with higher prices and called them back and let them know what I found it would cost to replace it. They agreed and cut me the check.
